Pompeo also offered more details on what a path to prosperity for North Korea would look like with direct investment by the US if Kim agrees to Washington's demands.

"This will be Americans coming in -- private sector Americans, not the US taxpayer -- private sector Americans coming in to help build out the energy grid," he said. "They need enormous amounts of electricity in North Korea."

Pompeo said the US would "work with them to develop infrastructure, all the things that the North Korean people need, the capacity for American agriculture to support North Korea so they can eat meat and have healthy lives. Those are the kind of things that if we get what it is the President has demanded -- complete verifiable irreversible denuclearization of North Korea -- that the American people will offer in spades."

Pompeo added that the US "will have to provide security assurances" to Kim as well.

So this reads like Kim took a hard look at what S Korea has been like with allies like the US and Japan, then looked over his shoulder at how little China has done for them over the years and said "F this".

So basically, we will help North Korea join the 21st century with the rest of the world. Hopefully, Kim will use this opportunity to his advantage.

I don’t care who you are or where you’re from, at their core, people love prosperity and want to do well for themselves. Offering a few billion in aide or a little technology doesn’t really move the needle long term. What the Trump administration is offering is serious long term investment to build NK’s infrastructure and to spur the growth of their economy. Think of it as akin to the Marshall plan that was implemented to rebuild Germany after WW2. When the most powerful country on earth lures that carrot in front of you in exchange for giving up your nukes, it’s gonna be tough to turn it down. Now look over at Iran, you know all the eyeballs in that country are watching too. It’s gonna be mighty tempting to want to get in on that action. I honestly believe that if things actually go the way we want them to with NK, Iran will either bend the knee shortly there after or that govt will fall. Like I said, the Trump admin is dangling a pretty big carrot out there.

Unlike Obama’s “Kumbaya” foreign policy where nothing is done and we get screwed, this incentive will actually produce results in a way which will show the North Koreans that the United States’ way of life is a productive one. It’ll also show that we are truly the strong arm of the world, but we will do it in a humanitarian way other than military force.

If we can pull this off, it’ll be one of the most impressive foreign policy initiatives in our nation’s history.

And all the libtards ranting about how pulling out of Iran deal would signal to Kim that Trump can’t be trusted.
But in the place we like to call “reality”, it’s the North Korean deal that’s gonna send a signal to Iranian people.
Imagine that. The opposite of what libs preach is what will actually happen. Nope. Never seen that happen before. Not never

Plenty of private companies interested in entering a new untapped market.

Look for “Made in North Korea” labels coming soon.

Here is the reality of the whole mess:
1). N Korea was years away from having a deliverable nuclear weapon;

2). We have 2 submarines on permanent station on either side of the Korean Peninsula whose sole function is to blow everything there up until the launch tubes go click;

3). We told the Chinese this and told them to stop aiding the N Koreans as there’s financial hell to be paid for crossing us and, well, see aforementioned minuscule weapons threat potential. There’s plenty more where they came from.

4). Fatboy likes living.

Seems likely to me NK will aim for a Vietnam type state, also along the China model, more capitalism but no democracy. I don't expect China to allow the US to gain too much influence, and true unification is doubtful.

I’m sure that SK is more than happy with normalized relations rather than the imminent war they’ve been staring down since the 50s.

Anything past that is gravy.

I’m not so sure. Even though the people of N. Korea have absorbed an inordinate amount of propaganda and are effectively brainwashed, there’s enough info and cross border culture available to maybe make them want to demand reunification. South Korea is a very vibrant, sophisticated (in urban areas), industrialized and high technology country. I can see the reunification happening in a short time frame. Or, they’ll just blow each other up.

Not right away, but I can see where the Northern people would fight for re-unification down the road.
