And it’s a Republican President and Republican Congress doing it. Unbelievable.

I am sick.

He knows the legislation will go nowhere because dems will want more and legislation will die

But he comes off as being proactive

No issue with the emphasis on mental health or bump stock ban even though bump stocks are easily replicated. Huge issue with the age limit.

Exactly ... the Dems will insist on a poison pill addition that far exceeds what he outlined in his tweet and they'll come away as losers once again.

No. I think whoever is advising him has gotten into his head that there needs to be some form of action. Yankee wants our guns.

But with his history of flip-floping, I wouldn't put it past him to change his mind and stop pursuing changes in gun laws. So at least there's that.

Dems aren’t in position to insist on anything. They should be happy with whatever they get. I hate that the GOP is caving in to this. WEAK.

Bump stocks are a sacrificial lamb ... no one cares about losing those and there will be no turn in or confiscation for those who already own them.

And the Feds need to get their DB act together and there does need to be more efficient and reliable background checks.

You ever fired a bump stock? It's trash. If this is his chest move, I'm ok with it.

He should call for a full out gun ban. Dems will oppose just to go against him. He says he tried and can point the finger at them.

Bump stocks should be the least of our concern. Where does it stop? WEAK move by a Pres I thought would always have our back. Here’s to hoping it’s just posturing and forcing the Dems’ hand.

This so stupid. Why cede ground to the Dims when its not even necessary? They'll kvetch for a while & then everyone will move on.

IMO, the whole "mental health" thing is a huge slippery slope. When the shitlibs take power again, they'll change tge definition of mental illness to include racism, transphobia, etc.

This feels like the DACA offer.

A bit of misdirection, perhaps.

I have a real problem with the mental health angle. The law had better be real damn specific about what mental health issues/medications will keep you from exercising your 2A right.

I have been prescribed anti-depressants before as a preventative med for migraines. I can see them adding something like that to the lis, and I am not a danger to anything except a bag of Cheetos.
