quote:The bottom line is that the airline business is a terrible one. For all the complaints fliers have that are basically tropes at this point, fliers also prove themselves to be 100% price shoppers, thus contributing to the further commodification of a low-margin business.
Also, I believe every major airline aside from Southwest has previously gone through a debt restructuring and hung shareholders out to dry.
I believe airlines in aggregate have net lost money as an industry since their inception 100 years ago or whatever.

So then my question still sort of applies: if there is demand for such flights, won't it be pretty quickly that they are still made available, either by extant airlines or by a new one?
They'll be made available, just not at Spirit's price point...demand will quickly shrink as a result.
Without looking at Spirit's financials, I'm assuming that doing flights at their price point was just not a feasible business model & it would also be unfeasible for other air lines.

Why do people act like stocks only go up? Purchasing stock is just legal gambling. And Wallstreet traders are basically gambling with other people's money.

I was responding to a question about different types of bankruptcy procedures.

That was one of Seinfeld’s funniest episode.

I imagine Spirit’s business model is only profitable at like $40 barrel oil.

Sure, but the merger may have created a more sustainable business model meeting somewhere in between. Pocahontas advocating for the dissolution of the merger should rightfully be criticized. Congress and judges should be held legally accountable, to some extent, for the results of their recommendations & decisions.. but that is a can of worms likely never to practically be defined and ultimately one more justification for term limits.

She literally says Spirit Airlines has gone bankrupt twice before now in her first sentence.
Was it Trump's fault then too? Or could it be that they had a shitty business model and catered to clientele that don't have disposable income, and also had a reputation of being MLK Blvd. in the sky?

My question is around bankruptcy itself.
It depends on how they file. There is reorganization and then there’s liquidation

I wonder how she knew to sell all of her spirit airlines stock a couple weeks ago at a yuge profit...what dumb luck..

She just made a ton of money on this deal.
Remember when they went Bankrupt twice, she bought a ton of stock for pennies on the dollar and just sold that stock before the latest bankruptcies.

quote:Sure. I hate Pocohontas, but let's be honest: airlines are such a terrible business and are so bound up with the government to begin with that it's sort of hard to just pick and choose certain things to blame on people.

If there truly is a way to deliver whatever Spirit was delivering, then it'll still happen. I feel bad for the folks who got stranded, but that's a one time time event.

Makes for great X content. It's a shame the facts don't support it.

As if she knows anything about a hopelessly mismanaged airline that was destined to fail.
