One day Wes Anderson needs to make Martin Skhreli bio-pic staring Jason Schwartzman. Hell you could call it Rushmore 2.

Considering none of his investors actually lost money, I think it's all bullshite and a witch hunt what is happening to the guy? Is he a PoS? Yes but it seems like so far the punishment is way harsher than the crime.

They basically charged him with a bunch of horse shite and the only thing that stuck was defrauding investors because he told them he had a compliance manager and didn't.

He's a shite head but this is the power of the state going after somebody because they don't like him.

The judge ruled his crimes cost over $10 million. Early investors were made whole because he was running a Ponzi scheme, starting new companies and diverting money from them to the investors in old companies. He was robbing Peter to pay Paul. Shkreli's a total psychopath, and I like the guy.

He’s mentally ill - it’s sad that a genius like this is going to be locked away rather than given the treatment he needs. And Skherli is a genius.

I read that the average investor made three to five time their initial investment, nobody lost money, and many made millions. It’s not that early investors were made whole- it’s that Everybody was made whole. I hate hate hate this kind of prosecution because there is no injured party, no victim. Just The State crushing a guy because they can and because he’s an a-hole.

I’d give him time served.

Sentencing underway; Meg Tirrell just live-tweeted:

quote:

"We're going to be filing appeal," Brafman says at sentencing hearing, noting that may contribute to some of perception that #Shkreli hasn't expressed remorse. Says "Shkreli has had remorse smacked into his head every morning" in prison.

That's a creative way of saying "BBC pounding his arse every morning," I guess. Prosecution is asking for 15 years.

ETA:
quote:

Judge delivers box of tissues to #Shkreli as he delivers statement through occasionally breaking voice.

I'm agreeing on this about Shkreli and I hate the guy. This type of prosecution is why I so hate the federal government on criminal prosecutions, it's no way fair, one side has a large amount of resources and the other side has an infinite amount of resources.

That being said, I wouldn't mind a whole bunch of people who needed the retrophin to beat his arse in public on the street. There's making a profit and then there's wanton greed.
