To play devil’s advocate, how do you know they don’t?

The problem right now is there are still enough left from the regime to kill uprisings.

Anyone in the regime is likely going to at best lose their positions, at worst be imprisoned or killed. So anyone in the current regime is not likely to give up until it’s their last move from being killed. Which there’s fewer and fewer of the old regime left, so at some point we should be getting close to having very little leadership left.

I keep asking myself, who are we even negotiating with?

ETA: if the people of Iran didn’t want a regime change, I ask myself why are all their neighbors supporting the U.S.?

For real, how do we know here whether half a million, 10 million, or 50 million people support those protests? And when do we decide it's organic and when do we say it's a engineered color revolution? And if it's organic, what is the threshold at which we should try to knock things over? Half of the population?

I am with you on the negotiation thing. We keep blowing up the next guy up. Apparently, Arahgchi is it right now.

The regime is oppressing their people. The people want change. Different scenarios.
the problem is that this line of thinking worked in countries where the above was true, but the ‘oppressive regimes’ weren’t nearly as bloodthirsty and intent on fighting for their control by any means necessary as the Islamic Republic is

nor had those previous regimes (Ukraine in 2014, Libya in 2011, Iraq in 2003, etc) been preparing and strategizing for war with the US and its proxies for decades

this has the potential to be the most consequential political miscalculation in history

There was a thread about it. I'm almost positive.

About 1 in 10 of us would fight and die to try and save the country. The other 90% would gripe about "the other side" on socials.

There would be no universal response as a nation, because we are too divided. Historical precedent indicates that the only reason we're not in a hot civil war is because everyone is still too comfortable. There's still gas and housing available. There's still plenty of food even for people who have no money whatsoever. There's still social media to use and express your frustrations about all the minor inconveniences that amount to a mole Hill.

When things truly get uncomfortable, we'll fight. The underlying hostility is already there, being held back only by a weakening levee of comfort. When the dam breaks, it's going to get wild.

Wait until there's no cell service at all because it's been blacked out to prevent communication among the populace. Wait until the supply chain grinds to a halt and Walmart shelves are empty. Wait until SNAP cards are useless and utility prices are raised by 2000%. Wait until they send the Blue Helmets door to door to confiscation guns, ammunition and any food you're got stashed away. Wait until there's martial law with checkpoints and strict curfews.

And the craziest part is that people right now think that all of this ^^^ cannot happen, as if America is "too good" to allow it. Dead wrong. It's already being seeded and propagated.

If I were being treated as the Iranians have been treated by their nation's leadership, I would do everything I could to help the "saviors" who are killing the leaders who have oppressed me.
