Good move. Getting out of the game while he still has a lot of life ahead of him.

Someone will try to elect Newt as Speaker. I said Rand because the young guns were presented as solid and they were cucks. I honestly don't know who to trust anymore.

He's eligible you know. You don't have to be an elected member of congress.

Internal polls must show he is fricked.

He is probably safe in his district as far as reelection is concerned but his position as SOTH is probably in trouble. He is probably retiring to save face.

Agreed Paul Ryan is a sheep in wolves' clothing. Too bad he will probably make a ton of $$$ as a lobbyist.

Paul Ryan is a fraud and I hope he fails at whatever he does with his life.

Good. I was excited about him becoming Speaker but he took a hard RINO turn immediately after.
Ditto for this guy:

Both Ryan and Boehner certified Swamp Masters. Time for this chain to be broken.

In all of the ads I hear locally for Republicans, it is all lower taxes, no foreign wars/monies, stop Gov't spending, and no benefits for illegal immigration.

Flavor of the month b/c so many people here adopt whatever the Republican team is selling in the moment. For now it’s Trump’s anti-globalists shtick, and you’re all lifelong anti-globalists. By the next election cycle you’ll have all returned to being lifelong neo-cons.

Wasn't he reluctant to run for Speaker initially after Boehner retired?

It sounds like he will be challenging Trump to be President.

Yes he was and that always bothered me. I think that is one of the reason he was a lackluster SOTH. If you are going to be a leader you need to be all in.

His debate with Biden was embarrassing for him.

How he got branded a budget wonk I'll never know. His proposed budgets were always a complete sham.

Kevin McCarthy would have been Speaker if he didn't do that thing he did that was seen as controversial but nobody remembers now.

What have an affair? He is probably still having an affair. We still don't know about the slush fund for sex her assers. That went away quickly didn't it?

He was chairman of Ways & Means at the time, which in some ways is more powerful than SOTH. Especially on budgetary issues, his supposed bread and butter. So I don't really blame his reluctance.

Not to mention a Republican caucus that proved difficult to wrangle for Boehner. It was a no-win situation.

Holy shite, I can't believe I'm defending Paul fricking Ryan.

He’s gonna make a primary run at Trump or Pence. He’s retiring to start campaigning. He’ll be in Iowa by December.

BREAKING: Paul Ryan Retiring; Report

Why do they do this?

Piggybacking on others' reporting (the organization didn't source it themselves and that language gives them a fig leaf if the story turns out not to be true).

The Iron Stache has got to be feeling good this morning.
