I would agree with that to an extent on DBT, but Isbell is still most certainly in his prime. He is probably the best song writer in America right now.

I am glad he's had an open mind about some things, especially racial stuff, but he seems too easily influenced sometimes as well. I heard an interview recently where he was questioning his own view on "Outfit" because some imbeciles had told him that it was homophobic or transphobic or some such. I mean, what the frick - it's one of his best songs and one of the better songs written this century. Don't question the motivations behind it - just love it and embrace it and have a little backbone for frick's sake.

It's one of the things I've always loved about Old Crow Medicine Show, a band not in exactly the same genre but close enough to be comparable. They were radical early and often, never shied away from their views, never backed down, and showed a lot of persistence in their song-writing. Somewhat ironically, a lot of their songs back in the day were about what would eventually become the forgotten Trump voter - Virginia union dock workers, Texas farm hands, Kentucky miners and opioid addicts, Tennessee meth addicts, etc., etc. They are pretty damn liberal bordering on radical in some ways, but I haven't seen them track back on their earlier views about those forgotten segments of society. They were ahead of their time in a lot of ways.

ETA: Flo-town has had a pretty liberal/weird streak for a long time. It's what gives the place its funky nature for small-town Alabama and makes it interesting and a draw for outsiders. Not totally surprising that Isbell and DBT would draw on some of that.

So do these bands turn into total pussies because they believe that garbage or because that is who they cater to, college educated liberal white males gone full SJWtard?
