To some extent, Europe does follow our lead. Look for a string of "conservative" victories across Europe in the next couple of years. Historically these European conservative parties are just barely center right but Trump is a primal force as the upsetter of apple carts. And with USAID out of the game and a free Twitter/X in we're in uncharted territory. There'll be a rightward shift and it might just be tectonic.

I'm hoping so, I know a lot of dudes in the UK who are proud to English and Welsh (respectively) and love America. They are for Traditional values and a return to decency.

I'm rooting for the big time.

Australia probably would.

At one time - yes.

But Australia went hard to the left.

New Zealand may have gone even further left than Australia.

Canada, as far left as they have gone under lil Fidel, would gladly stab us in the back.

Japan and Hungary are the only two that are 100% willing to dig in on our behalf.

The rest are not quite trustworthy imho.

Most of Central Europe will land with us over Brussels. Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, and Slovakia are all solid. Probably Croatia and maybe even Austria.

Good points. I was trying to give them both the benefit of being pragmatic.

Japan is our best friend. We need to help them fully rearm and develop a powerful military again.

It has to be Israel. We don’t bend over arse backwards for anyone more than them. They must be important. How many Americans have died on the behalf of Israel since 1991?

Really? I knew we had normalized relations in the Clinton years but are we really that friendly? I guess it makes sense that they might see China as the #1 threat.

This ties together so stay with me:

When European right-wingers were trying to introduce the Japanese to antisemitism in the late 19th/early 20th century, it mostly failed to work. They told them a story of a small group of people who were chosen by God and mysteriously control all the levers of power in the world, and they saw a little bit of their own self mythology in the story of the Jewish people and honestly just respected the game that antisemites suggested they were playing.

When Japan was opened up by the Perry Expedition, they sought to quickly bring themselves up to par with the global leaders of the time and they saw an analogue in the British. They immersed themselves in learning from the British among others.

I think the Japanese have a high regard for themselves and believe they can do anything anybody else can do and likely better. They respect power and probably only crossed the US because we were still an isolationist nation not fully established on the world stage. Even so, the whole gambit of Pearl Harbor was to get us to sue for peace quickly after a decisive defeat opening the war. Their entire admiralty and general officer corp knew that they needed to chop our heads off at Pearl Harbor or prepare to lose. However their own self regard and honor made them fight over every inch of the Pacific hoping for a better treaty deal in the end.

Say what you want but when they had to choose between surrendering to Soviet communists or surrendering to Western capitalism, they knew what they were going to do...especially after two nuclear bombs.

Imagine telling a Marine that just fought in Iwo Jima…”you think this is fricked up? In less than 4 generations, our only ally in the world will be the Japs in World War III.”
