Yet it's really not surprising. Most sane people saw this coming from him.

It's more surprising that anyone honestly believed that we were going to erect a literal, impenetrable, militarized barrier between two friendly nations that do $550B a year in trade. Or that anyone thought Mexico would pay for it.

If I serve in a foreign governments military do I get to play citizen now?

Or do I have to have a certain amount of brown for it to work?

The Foreign Legion is a pretty sweet deal other than the Foreign Legion part.

But some of these same "sane" people are calling him a "white supremacist". You can't have it both ways.

OK. I think I have it figured out. We just need to put a dollar value on the DREAMER's. Say $10K a head. Then when we grant them citizenship we are effectively taking $10K of value from Mexico. So 800,000 dreamers at $10K each, you get $8 billion. Good enough for a downpayment. Brilliant!

@chrislhayes: Psyched for when Trump has collectivized farming and Hannity is cheering him on for sticking it to Paul Ryan.

I'm definitely in favor of anyone committing a felony, or any type of violent, or theft related misdemeanor. But if a 20 year old dreamer soldier got caught drinking a beer on leave, I wouldn't think that should be a deportable offense. We have a ton of laws on the books.

The problem isn't really the underage invaders ( at "dreamers" - Lenin and Alinsky would be so very proud) - it's the message that it sends.

First - parents will sacrifice to bring their kids here. Once the kids are "legalized" then the parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, best friends - all have a direct route to the U.S.

Secondly, it still just flat out rewards bad behavior at the expense of folks who do things the right way.

We cannot absorb untold millions of poor folks, with limited language skills, no job skills, year after year with no period of assimilation.

We CANNOT survive this and remain the nation of our birth. Period. I'm as sympathetic as the next guy, but amnesty is wrong every single time they do it. It only encourages the next wave. Since the last amnesty ONE THIRD of Mexico has relocated to the united states. What will happen next time? Probably 1/3 of the balance of Latin America will at least try to get here.

So, I'm respectfully disagreeing with the President's appeal to emotion in this case.

Here's a list of militaries around the world, that recruit foreigners.

LINK

Here's what it says about the United States.

quote:

United States Armed Forces - Permanent Residence/Green Card. Many have also served in the war zones and have received US citizenship after a period of service.[28]
Citizens of Palau, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands may also join the US armed forces under the Compacts of Free Association, though some officer positions may be restricted.[29]
Canadian born Native Americans/First Nations may also join the US armed forces if they are of at least 50% blood quantum.[30]
Additionally, under the Military Accessions Vital to National Interest program, skilled foreigners such as translators may be recruited as needed, along with, as of September 2014 illegal immigrants with clean records and who have graduated high school if they were brought to the United States as children

Some here might be eligible for New Zealand.

quote:

New Zealand
Overseas: A serving member of another military can join the New Zealand Defence Force. The Requirements are to be a current or recently serving (within 6–12 months) member of the UK, Australian, USA or Canadian Armed Forces, have been a citizen of either the UK, Australia, USA, or Canada for a minimum period of 10 years, or have been living in NZ for a minimum period of 5 years, be eligible for release from current service within 18 months of applying, and meet current vacancy criteria at the time of application

This dude is really good at 4D-chessing his own base.

They hate him now, but tomorrow he will say something dumb again like "fake news" and his base will love him again.

It's genius
