I was promised a big, beautiful wall.
I know you're disappointed, but just imagine the 2020 Trump re-elect rallies.
Trump: What are we gonna do?!
Crowd: Keep renovating old and existing fences and walls!
Trump: And who's not going to pay for it?!
Crowd: Mexico!!

I can't wait for SJWs to turn on dreamers. Shouldn't be long before dreamer privilege is conjured up since it's not fair they got to stay but others in Mexico are still stuck there.

I cannot think of a more accurate descriptor - someone who crosses an international border without right, cause, authority, permission, documentation, identification, etc., is invading that country, period.
(ETA: Let me put it this way - if I snuck into your house at 0100 to snack out of your refrigerator, you wouldn't refer to me as "dreamer" while the cops are there taking your statement after you shoot me several times.)

It will be interesting to see if illegal crossings increase after this flip from Trump.

But I do want us to take a closer look at the "dreamers". I want anyone committed of a crime deported, anyone not a student over the age of 18 without a job deported, and I want anyone collecting any sort of government handouts deported.
This just shows your ignorance of the subject.
In order to get DACA you have to go thru a CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK!
DACA recipients put way more into the government and economy than they take away.

How does a student add to the government or economy? Seems that they benefit from actual legal taxpayers.
Is dreamer privilege a reasonable term now?

They still pay sales taxes which go to benefits which they aren't eligible to receive.
They will eventually graduate and get a full time job and pay even more in income taxes which they will not receive allot of the return benefits.

They also pay a $500 fee every two years for deferred action. That's $20 million per year for 800,000 of them.

So we can agree that a dreamer student does not do either of the things you suggested?
You support amnesty too? Will you support all future waves of illegals getting amnesty? You should if you support amnesty today.

You are assuming they graduate and get a job.

quote:Of course not. But that wasn't the point. I just found it funny that while disparaging one colorful and inaccurate term which was spun for political effect, you simultaneously applied another colorful and inaccurate term which was spun for political purposes. I realize that "invader" has many connotations and can apply to anything from pathogens to ideas. But I assumed you were referring to invader in a military sense (in the context of unauthorized persons crossing an international border). In what known publication of military history or doctrine would these kids quality as invaders?

It is irrelevant whether the current Dreamers are deported. There will simply be more to take their places. There should be a fixed period of time in which these people can register to become legal residents, and only legal residents, and if they fail to register in the window, never again. Penalty for failure to register is deportation.
Their presence in this country here should be conditional on their FUTURE compliance with the terms of the permission slip to be here any law may grant them. They don't get permanent legal residency, but conditional legal residency.
If they commit a felony, fail to pay taxes, if they join a gang or join a terrorist organization - no matter whether their actions constitute a crime under state or federal law, they should be tried federally and if guilty they get deported as their sentence. Seriously. Not speeding tickets. Felonies. Commit one. You're gone. You signed a contract when I allowed you to stay, you violated it when you joined up with a gang.
These people should NEVER be allowed to become citizens - and NEVER allowed to vote as a matter of law. If they want to become citizens, seriously, they have to leave, stand in line, and come back like everybody else that wants to become a citizen. I'm fine with a constitutional amendment to that effect.
There has GOT to be a way to ensure that we are ONLY dealing with "Dreamers" who sneaked in here before today. Somebody who sneaks into our country next week with their 5 year old "Dreamer" has now brought in another kid who will be raised at taxpayer expense who is then going to be "as American as anyone else" in 2027. Then what? It's not the 800,000 we know about now - it's the millions more that will be motivated to show up now that they can that are so troublesome.
Wall no wall - something needs to be done to turn off the faucet. Permanently.

I categorically deny that characterizing invaders as invaders is inaccurate in any way. Isn't even particularly colorful.
"Descriptive" is better. Everyone dreams. Everyone hopes. Not everyone invades another country and then demands full rights and privileges. That takes a special kind of balls (<- Now "balls" is colorful, evocative language that isn't necessarily inaccurate either.)

Does anyone have the actual text of this bill that Trump agreed to??? I'd like to read it.

Chuck and Nancy: We're skipping the wall and keeping DACA!
Trump, on Twitter: We're kind of still doing the wall, but that aside, here's full throated support for DACA
WH, just now: "DACA is a priority ahead of the wall."
gthog61: "Oh boy, Trump's about to bamboozle these guys, just you watch, oh boy. MAGA!"
