i got this from one of my super-leftist FB groups (it's based in Portland). there was this epic exchange
the Coastal Left, where you can have a legitimate, serious conversation comparing literal shite on the street with improving areas of town
quote:
Every weekday morning, shortly before dawn, a squadron of men arrives downtown to serve as an alarm clock.
These security officers roust people who are sleeping against buildings or in the middle of the sidewalk. They tell them it's time to wake up—and stand watch until they do.
That's the cue for Cindi Shipley.
quote:
Along with the officers, Shipley, 41, works for the Clean and Safe program at Central City Concern, which in turn has a contract with the downtown businesses that tax themselves to clean the sidewalks every day.
It's not work most people would want. Shipley's grateful for it.
quote:
n downtown, according to statistics compiled by the Clean and Safe District, the number of hypodermic needles picked up off the streets grew from 2,817 in 2012 to 38,394 in 2018. "Sometimes I think it's getting better, sometimes I feel like it's getting worse," says Jay McIntyre, business director for the Clean Start program at the nonprofit Central City Concern.

Person 1: Let that shite pile up. frick those business and real estate goofs.
Person 2: Darling Patrick poor choice. Use something that doesn’t spread diseases we can catch..
Person 1: I'd take shite and used rigs over yuppie boutiques and gentrifying real estate scum any day. The later isn't really reversible.
Person 3: the damages feces does, public health hazards, yes unfortunately outweigh the ugly gentifying apartments everywhere

It's past time to put closed military bases to use for a good cause.

I don’t think it’s today, but there is a long term buying opportunity on a lot of property on the left coast. The pendulum will absolutely swing back one day.

To my downvoter - why not? You have a better solution?

Person 1 would prefer to have used hypodermic needles and shite everywhere than support businesses taxing themselves (isn’t that some kind of leftist dream). Can someone please explain any positive benefit to this?

OT, granted I prefer living in a feces-free city, but gentrification has ruined some really cool towns.

This should be played every day in the media but they would rather degrade our great president every day. The left and the media are ENEMIES of our country!!
MAGA!!

I guess Democrat policies really DO create jobs, albeit zhitty ones....

Gotta be up there with "Worst Job Ever." Only job worse would be doing the same thing in San Francisco.

Is that not where I'm supposed to dispose of my needles and feces?

How about getting the sick, addicted, mentally ill, and grifters off the street? There is zero gain from leaving them roaming the streets. Use the millions to build them a treatment center. The centers should include:
- drug rehab for addicted
- ward for the mentally ill
- a torture chamber for the grifters.
It would be much more cost effective to house them in an area versus leaving them unleashed on the public stealing, infecting & driving up maintenance cost from their destruction.

No it hasn't...

It's the permissiveness of local authorities that allows this to go on.
You can't stop gentrification. Why would you want to stop redevelopment?

Ah, another day in a socialist paradise.
