Reading the rule change it does not allow any athlete any kind of protest on the medal stand or during the playing of the gold medal winning competitors anthem. If they do they would still be stripped of their medal and sent home from the games. This is only for the anthem at the start of competition.

I would LOVE to know how many of those polled by the IOC who want to protest are from countries other than the U.S.

Honestly, I don't care at all. I used to love the Olympic Games, but have gotten more and more tired of how few actual events they show in favor of human interest stories, so many of which are about foreign athletes. I'm American...I want to watch American athletes, and if there is some story worthy of knowing, I'd like it to be about an American.
Call me a xenophobe about this I guess, but so be it. If there is ever a time for good natured tribalism, it's The Olympics for frick's sake!
But regardless of whether or not the committee was going to "Allow" anything, I assumed athletes would do whatever they wanted, and more importantly the sports media was going to trip over themselves allowing athletes to spew whatever they wanted, and run cover by addressing it themselves anyway.
So...protest all you want. I was out already.
