Beyond any payments to his family, the US Olympic team have trials where most countries don’t. If you are clearly the best, making sure you peak for the trials can hurt your professional season or at worst cause undue injuries. Most people who opt to live in US but compete for their parents country outside of US are singularly doing it to not have to perform at trials.
