OK law states the person who is appointed can not run in the special election (if there is time for one) or the next general election.
I wish that was universal.

He’s done some good things but calling out Trump recently was not a good look.

people act like every representative has to have a JD as if years of grad school or law school helps them represent normal people, which is ridiculous. Id honestly rather have more working class people in office.
100% agree : successful businessmen, construction company presidents, farmers & ranchers, etc etc Let’s give that a try instead of these career grifters

It’s the senate not the house.
AOC and Omar are both being talked about as candidates for President or VP. But I guess that has a lower bar for experience than the Senate.

You guys just hate consistency. Or love complaining. Probably both.

Whatever "qualifies" on to be a senator is what we need less of.
Posted on 3/9/26 at 9:30 am to Major Dutch Schaefer
If anyone is willing to talk about something being initially "unqualified" for Senate, I'd like to reiterate that John Fetterman was fairly recently a freshman Senator. Before the stroke, he was practically retarded.
And I say that as a conservative Okie who is no fan of Stitt at all. "Reddest State in the Union" and all, we gave to the Senate a guy named James Lankford who is basically a Democrat. And the tards here will gleefully vote for him again because his name is now familiar and hE's BeTtEr tHaN a DeMoCrAt.

This is actually the sort of situation where the 80 year old guy who has done nothing but be successful in the private sector his whole life kinda makes sense.
The term ends in Jan 2027, the Senate seat will be decided in Nov 2026. So its really around a 7 to 8 month seat but less when you factor how little they work in DC.
Harold could go Hamm in that short of time, with no F’s to give.

Who did you vote for over Lankford? I voted Jackson Leymeyer but he didn’t have enough backing and money. Lankford sucks, he was going to give illegals citizenship when that bill was being worked on and failed a year ago.
Thats the issue, the real race is Primaries. Once primaries are done no one is voting for the Dem in the actual election. Too damn many people skip primaries and thats where we get our rep at. We will have a primary in Jun for the Senate seat race and thats the important vote.

I don’t. Because they are not. Class is based on your relation to capital not on whether your hands get dirty at work or not.

And to think Bernie Sanders will die while serving as a senator and an Independent to boot. He may get to 100 and he will still get the majority of votes.

I'm not even sure if anyone is running to challenge Lankford. I certainly hope so. I know the chatter among my circle, and no one wants to vote for him again.
And you're right, Okies need to get far more involved and interested in Primary races. I think the only time we had a record-breaking "non-General" election was when "medical" weed was on the ballot. That turned out to be a disaster that they're just now beginning to figure out.

Lankford is not up until 2028
