Did you know that countries that have more cars have more vehicular deaths?

It's largely countries that have more miles driven, if we're being honest - not raw numbers of cars (though the two are often correlated).

Weird, most of the gun nuts on this board will swear up and down that more guns mean FEWER gun deaths, not more - yet you just stated the opposite. Welcome to the light!

I understand the facts that the study was looking for was how to justify gun confiscation and regulation

And there's your problem. That's not what this particular paper was looking for at all.

No, what I'm saying is I don't give two fricks about your correlation.

Now what's really fun is correlating where all these gun deaths are occurring, and the demographics of the ones doing the shooting.

The rates are in the study. BamaATL won't like it since this study was a study of other studies to justify new studies.

To be fair, that was probably just Obama and Holder's Fast and Furious guns coming back to the US.

Links to these studies.

Also as a aside. In general no one disputes that having more guns in a country is going to equal more gun deaths through suicide, murder, and accidents. The same can be said for anything. More forks in a country will lead to more accidents with forks for example.

What matters to me more than "Gun" statistics is violent crime. Why you focus only on the tool used to commit violent crime is that mystifying part.

Do you dispute that anywhere from 500,000 to 3,000,000 lives are saved yearly by defensive uses of firearms?

Do you dispute that violent crime has been decreasing over the last decade and gun ownership has increased?

If CDC studies are as glowingly positive as you make it out to be via your excerpts, then why does the NRA and GOP absolutely refuse to fund/allow the CDC to track and study gun violence? They're using the Dickey Amendment to shut these studies down and that amendment has stood for over 20 years.

Here is the Wiki page on the amendment for a little background.

The spread between those numbers alone should automatically make you weary of their findings.

What specifically does the CDC want to study and how are they going to conduct it any differently than what has already been studied?

I'd like to see what the CDC proposes.

It's a very unreliable statistic for sure. The point of it though is that all experts agree it is far far higher than Homicides committed with firearm.

Oh the two gun-control advocates are still clinging to the myth that the CDC was banned from conducting research on this topic. How laughably ignorant and dishonest of them. Wonder why one of the former top leaders of the CDC's firearms research, Dr. Mark Rosenberg, stated in an interview that the only thing stopping the CDC from conducting research on the topic is the CDC's own leadership? Not Congress, not the NRA, the CDC's own top brass.

Link to where one person made the direct claim that more guns directly relates to less gun deaths.

It’s “leary” or “wary,” not “weary.”

That's not what the CDC research starting points paper was, either.

Here's a meta-analysis of said studies from Jan 2016 (which is what you mean when you say a study of studies):
LINK

quote:

Evidence from 130 studies in 10 countries suggests that in certain nations the simultaneous implementation of laws targeting multiple firearms restrictions is associated with reductions in firearm deaths.

quote:

In general no one disputes that having more guns in a country is going to equal more gun deaths through suicide, murder, and accidents.

You must be new to this forum, where people claim that this isn't true every time we have this discussion. In fact, many people here believe that more guns will lead to FEWER gun deaths, not more. Mainly because they're idiots who fetishize guns, but there you are - they claim to believe it, laughable as it is.

There have never been any data to suggest that this is true.

Yes - gun ownership as a % of the population has gone down at the same time that violent crime has decreased.

You really must be new here, we've covered both of these extensively before.

THEY TOLD YOU IN THE STUDY YOU CLAIM TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU STARTED THIS THREAD OVER.

Seriously, sometimes the ignorance on this board outdoes itself.

Per Dickey, who wrote the amendment, they are.

Maybe get your information from somewhere other than the NRA, champ.
