You'd make your point my strongly if you limited your cites to NYT critiques of pandemic related travel bans. All of these, as best I can tell, these are all critiques of versions of what Trump called the Muslim ban.

I also think many people would find they have a lot more in common than they think. The breadth of media and information outlets is wider than at any point human history. Unfortunately, the depth may be shallower as all are competing in a hopelessly overcrowded landscape for eyeballs/clicks. Division and sensationalism (on both sides of political spectrum) is only way those in the industry feels they can get the attention.
I have friends and family that lean very left...and those who lean very right. They essentially hate the other's perceived mindset. The irony is that if they both just turned off the news for a while they would realize they have much more in common than they think

The difference is Trump imposed travel bans because of xenophobia while Biden did it out of necessity to contain spread of Covid.
