quote:

As a child, I was led to believe that Blackness was inferior. And I was not alone. The Black society into which I was born was riddled with these beliefs. It wasn’t something that most if any would articulate in that way, let alone knowingly propagate. Rather, it was in the air, in the culture. We had been trained in it, bathed in it, acculturated to hate ourselves. It happened for children in the most inconspicuous of ways: It was relayed through toys and dolls, cartoons and children’s shows, fairy tales and children’s books.

quote:

Some of the first cartoons I can remember included Pepé Le Pew, who normalized rape culture; Speedy Gonzales, whose friends helped popularize the corrosive stereotype of the drunk and lethargic Mexicans; and Mammy Two Shoes, a heavyset Black maid who spoke in a heavy accent.

Reruns were a fixture in the pre-cable days, so I watched children’s shows like Tarzan, about a half-naked white man in the middle of an African jungle who conquers and tames it and outwits the Black people there, who are all portrayed as primitive, if not savage. I watched the old “Our Gang” (“Little Rascals”) shorts in which the Buckwheat character summoned all the stereotypes of the pickaninny.

And of course, I watched westerns that regularly depicted Native Americans as aggressive, bloodthirsty savages against whom valiant white men were forced to fight.

This is so, so obvious but black people do not want to take responsibility for their own shitty ghetto culture.

A nation that loses its sense of humor will become mentally ill. We're seeing that. A nation that embraces mental illness will fade into poverty and decay. That's soon to come.

I used to set my clock as a kid to watch early morning cartoons because I was a devout racist and misogynist. I didn't realize that back in the day.

To be fair I always knew Pele Le Pew was creepy. That cartoon got old fast and it wasn't one of my favorites.

Maybe he watched an earlier Tarzan cartoon than me. The one I remembered he primarily hung out with apes, and the other humans that were there were usually always white. But idk maybe I'm wrong.

He needs to watch some better westerns.

I 100% agree with Pepe Le Pew being a creep. He’s also represents a pretty tough stereotype of the French- stinky and sexually aggressive, although there’s always a little truth to every stereotype. The Speedy Gonzales thing is pretty stupid though.

No way. It's the cartoons, man. Those cartoons!

What's hilarious is somehow... cartoons are what holds Black people back... but imagery of shooting each other and treating women like crap in rap music... are just harmless examples of "culture".
