Time to set some of the OT off. Jim Geraghty had a few Trump critiques yesterday in National Review. It's not all criticism. He praises Vance at the end. Enjoy, hehe.

quote:

Besides picking needless fights with Brian Kemp, the Republican governor of the key swing state of Georgia, Trump is maintaining a light campaign schedule, with only one rally so far in August, and no plans for another one until after the Democratic convention ends August 22.

Trump spent Sunday afternoon raging on Truth Social that “Kamala CHEATED at the airport? There was nobody at the plane, and she ‘A.I.’d’ it, and showed a massive ‘crowd’ of so-called followers, BUT THEY DIDN’T EXIST! ....”

If, in his press conference last week, Trump had wanted to take down Kamala Harris, he could have spoken at length about her past declaration that “an undocumented immigrant is not a criminal”; her support for decriminalizing currently illegal crossings; her belief that illegal immigrants deserve free health care; her claim that Donald Trump “manufactured” a “so-called crisis” regarding illegal immigration; her contention that a border wall is “wasteful”; her support for reparations for slavery; her support for raising the top tax rate to 39.6 percent, raising taxes by an additional four percentage points for households — not individuals, households — making more than $100,000 per year, raising the corporate tax rate from 21 percent to 35 percent, and raising estate taxes by $315 billion; her desire to restore and expand the Iranian nuclear deal; her openness to an arms embargo against Israel; her vague positions on many issues relating to China; her rejection of preemptive sanctions against Russia before the invasion of Ukraine; her longtime support for taxpayer funding for abortion; her support for partial-birth abortion, etc. . ..

He just isn’t willing to put in the work.

By the way, you know who is out there, doing the work? J. D. Vance — who did interviews on ABC’s This Week, CBS News’ Face the Nation, and CNN’s State of the Union yesterday.

Some of you Trump guys quite literally can't take ANY criticism of Trump. At all. Why is your skin so thin that you can't tolerate... or even fathom, anyone criticizing Trump?

This election SHOULD be the easiest choice in the history of Presidential elections. Just frickin' go out there and highlight that, Trump... but Trump can't seem to get out of his own way long enough to do just that.

It's baffling, to say the least.

This is where I am. I live in Al. and I'll vote a straight R as usual and my vote makes no difference.
This is going to be decided in 6 to 8 states and you just can't keep pissing off people you're going to need. Criticizing Kemp is just silly. Going after Harris about race pisses off a lot of independent voters in northern states.
Just get on point with things that matter immigration, the economy and stay there.
This race shouldn't be close. We should see a red wave.

Geraghty is a pretty good political reporter, usually does his homework. Put him right there with Zito, York, and Barone.

Strong point. Trump picking the fight with Kemp is full blown idiocy. He has zero to gain

Georgia is a swing state.

The trumpeteers will note for him if he says nothing. The marginal voters will likely reconsider.

Trump needs to just stay on message.

That was a very accurate critique of Trump's prominent style.

Now yes, that 'style' has endeared him to many of his most loyal supporters. But it is highly unlikely to pursuade anyone who may come into the debate with not-so-high-a-regard for him.

I speak with authority on this /\

I was quite possibly the most vocal opponent of Trump during the 2016 campaign. I knew nothing about him other than my perception that he was a rich playboy wanting more attention = possibly to gather background data for some new reality show like "So You Want to be POTUS?"

I argued against him right up until the convention was over. (I even thought of not voting, but decided to fall back on my vow - "vote for the least evil" - and that was to vote against HRC, so I held my nose and voted for Trump)

I have never regretted that - and now am one of his most devoted supporters. I still do not like his persona, and I would not want him as a son-in-law, a neighbor, or a close friend. But I LOVE how he handled the presidency considering he had to deal with not only the swamp but traitors within his own camp.

His gobble-d-goop manner of rambling is very very off-putting to someone who just really wants to get a gist of his platform.

Point is - you have to already be a devout supporter of Trump to tolerate two hours on much of his 'rhetoric' -

It's a shame - he has the potential to become one of the most honored POTUS' of all time for his potential to RESCUE THE REPUBLIC from the most deadly enemy it has ever faced = home grown treasonous socialism.

I don;t know of anyone else with the financial means and the intestinal fortitude to fight off this most serious danger - but he is going to need all the help he can get to attract enough 'independent' voters to offset the FRAUD that is surely coming down the track.

He doesn't need to be dissuading them with jibberish before they have a chance to evaluate all his better assets.

Did you ask Erick Erickson what he thinks and the lincoln project?

How about Liz Cheney?

I won't be reading this crap much less part 2. As it is so last weeks news. Trump and Kemp are siamese twin lovers now.

You all will never learn. That's not true at all.

Why would I embrace a leftist criticism of Trump or Vance or DeSantis? Do you think I should?

Instead, Trump said: I know Willie Brown very well. In fact, I went down in a helicopter with him. We thought, maybe this is the end. We were in a helicopter going to a certain location together, and there was an emergency landing. This was not a pleasant landing. And Willie, he was a little concerned.

Exactly

I listen to trumps rally speeches and get frustrated every time. He’s got the spotlight and all he does is ramble. He avoids pointing out the clear flaws of Kamala and Walz.

It’s like he’s just trying to be funny and entertaining but at what cost?
