1992. Gangsta rap blew up, grunge hit the scene, and we have had very few great bands since. GNR came out with Use your Illusion 1 and 2 that year, and it kind of felt like the last of an era.

It seemed like instead of creating music they made noise to make a buck. But I came from a different place in life so to each their own I guess.

I mean every once in a while someone will come out with a half way catchy song but definitely no great albums of bands that consistently pump out good music. Sad thing is that their are still some really talented singers out their. Occasional will come across someone on YouTube or tik tok and think wow they have a great voice. With the right songwriting and promotion they could blow up. But then never see anything from them again.

I’m really hoping the hip hop popularity has peaked and in the decline

Modern hip hop sounds like their slurring their words half the time. It's the absolute worst genre of music right now and I listen to just about anything

As previously mentioned, you're old. Go searching on Spotify. There is good rock music today, it just isn't as popular as it once was. Popular never dictated whether something was actually good.

You're right. Lucy Thomas could be HUGE. She has the whole package, but she's on YouTube singing cover songs. I don't get it.

Lewis Capaldi has a great voice, but unfortunately he has some physical issues like Tourettes (sp?) that limit him. But if he was 100% healthy, would anybody be promoting him?

Dude, GFY. You don't have to be old to know that music has basically died. Hell, you do realize that it's possible to see things that were around before your time?.I know about Jesus, but I wasn't around when he was here.

I know people in their 20's who feel the same way that I do about music.

Now that I think I understand the argument of your post, You're saying their hasn't been any white male musicians (except for Justin Bieber) to produce classic rock?

Well that's just not true. My generation is starting to consider classic rock things like Dave Mathews, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Creed, Foo Fighters, The Offspring, Linkin Park, The White Stripes, and Pearl Jam.

The next generation?
I dunno.. probably Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5, The Killers, Fall Out Boy, and Mumford and sons.

You can't name a whole bunch of classic rock from your generation and then ask why there hasnt been any white male classic rock bands since then (With all due respect to the Biebster)? Well.. because then it wouldn't be classic. at least to you. Every generation will have its classic rock and sure the sound changes some but us white folk still doing ok in producing our own culture, I think.

I was not a fan. I only listed him because, like it or not, he did become somewhat of a big deal.

But, why does it have to be "classic" in the sense that the genre has to die off? That's what I don't get. The music of the 1970's and 1980's was far superior to what's going on now. As I said before, I don't think that's the case simply because people aren't that talented now.

Honestly, I think part of it is not wanting to give a white male that kind of platform anymore. I mean, people didn't suddenly forget how to sing.

LOL. It's just a phase. Bands are out solo singers are in. Three years from now it will be the opposite.

Top 20 hits today from white singer or groups.

Is this serious?

If you need a solid manly man white boy band, dig some. Hot Water Music is pretty testosterone based? But the Eagles? Come on that is some nursing home era shite. Trump got elected he didn't fly around the earth and turn back time by a century...Culture is shifting but its not reversing.

Now that I better understand your premise I edited my original response. And yes. I know thats not how things work, but to be honest, I figured you were a more responsible adult than me (seeing as how you're probably about 24 ish years older than me with a daughter my age who grew up listening to boy bands) and that you would be asleep.

Popular music styles die off because the generations that produce them age out and eventually die off. I was born in 79 and grew up hearing 60s-70s rock seemingly non-fricking-stop and enjoy and love a ton of it but I don't hold it in some "omg best music evah" reverence. My 20 something year old kids feel the same way about my music. And unless you were cruising around blasting Marv Alpert or Chet Atkins when you were a teenager, you likely felt the same about your elders music. If you want to see REO Speedwagon or Molly Hatchet clones take center stage again you guys will have to get out there and support them with the same enthusiasm you did when y'all were 15.

LOL

You don't say

I can't believe a couple of the greatest bands of all time have not been just popping out every other year. I don't think we will ever get back to the level of music we had in the 70s and especially 80s. Hell, even the young generation still likes it
