No so sure about that.
Older academics were/are very doctrinnaire about proper citation and plagiarism. If anything, the victims of this movement will mainly be younger "academics" in fridge fields.

Nailed it earlier in your well written response. It's laziness plain and simple...the bane of most Americans.
I see it in my field as well...irritating as hell. Fortunately, I am close to retirement.

I overlooked his misspelling.

I think it more has to do with citing Wikipedia which really isn’t even “citeable”
Oxman consistently paragraphically separated then parenthetically cited her sources. The d/t the separation, the represented citations are crystal clear.
BI idiots are calling out the fact Oxman did not additionally place the cites in quotes, and drawing equivalence with Gay, whose pieces included no citations at all.
Here's the article,
Bill Ackman's celebrity academic wife Neri Oxman's dissertation is marred by plagiarism

what happened to Ackman? seems like he was shilling for every Leftist policy a few months back.
now he is using his money to go after Leftists in IVY league schools.

Good for him
BTW...
I told y'all this would happen
I said the academy, but I should have known the media would get their first.

My wife, @NeriOxman, was just contacted by Business Insider claiming that they have identified other plagiarism in her work including 15 examples in her dissertation where she did not cite Wikipedia as a source.

That's why I am not a fan of using plagiarism as the cover for dismissing her. That will only give leftists in the academy another tool for going after the few remaining conservatives. Watch over the next year if you don't see similar retaliatory charges against academics who don't tow the party line (including liberals who aren't "progressive" enough).
She should have been fired for being a hypocrite. She only seemed to be in support of free speech when it was against Jews.

You do realize that it was Aikman going on CNBC advocating shutting the country down in 2020?

I know most people don't like Dave Portnoy, but he's had issues with Business Insider for years.

Portnoy was one of the ones screaming for MIT to do something about Gay and after it happened,

I've been saying it for at least two or three years. Business Insider is CNN if CNN was trying to camoflage themselves as a business magazine instead of a cable news network. They are one hundred percent partisan and one hundred percent left wing political establishment larping as business reporters. No one should take anything they print or post as serious journalism or reporting. They are Media Matters trying to pass themselves off as a business channel.

Bill Ackerman is mad
he is not

that BI is claiming that his wife committed plagiarism. The exact same thing that he claimed Harvard's president did.]
He didn't claim it, he proved it repeatedly. Also his original beef was not just the plagiarism but the grossly racist comments she made in public on the record with plenty of time to recant or apologize.
quote:
And he's mad that they didn't give him and his wife time to respond before publishing? Did he give the Harvard prez time to respond before going forward with his claims?
Yes, she was given ample opportunity to both recant and apologize for her excessive racism and genocidal comments and her plagiarism which has been in question for months now, not hours.
So other than getting absolutely every last detail wrong, you understand it.

Portnoy is hilarious. BI has taken a couple swipes at him and lost. It is a delusional bunch.
Of course it's also worth considering the man behind BI, who is a noted crook and fraud:
In other words, "news" is his second act after the feds ran him off Wall Street.

In 2003, [Henry] Blodget was charged with civil securities fraud by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.[8] ... He was permanently barred from the securities industry and censured by the SEC, NASD, and NYSE.[9]
The charges arose from...issuing materially misleading research reports on internet companies, and making exaggerated or unwarranted claims about them to customers.
Blodget rose to prominence again as co-founder, CEO, and editor-in-chief of Business Insider

Last night, no one at
@MIT
had a good night’s sleep.
Yesterday evening, shortly after I posted that we were launching a plagiarism review of all current MIT faculty, President Kornbluth, members of MIT’s administration, and its board, I am sure that an audible collective gasp could be heard around the campus.
Why? Well, every faculty member knows that once their work is targeted by AI, they will be outed. No body of written work in academia can survive the power of AI searching for missing quotation marks, failures to paraphrase appropriately, and/or the failure to properly credit the work of others.
But it wasn’t just the MIT faculty that did not sleep last night. The
@Harvard
faculty, its governing board members, and its administrative leadership did not sleep either. Because why would we stop at MIT?
Don’t we have to do a deep dive into academic integrity at Harvard as well?
What about Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Penn, Dartmouth? You get the point.

This is probably true. The issue is once the "best and brightest" (the Ivy League schools) PhDs are outed, they'll pretty much HAVE to remove the stigma of plagiarism. After all, it will basically show that if THEY can't manage to avoid it, then by God, it's unavoidable.
That will be their argument anyway. There's no way it plays out accurately - that the vast majority of them are not any smarter than lots of other people and they mostly just sit around smelling their own (and each other's) farts.
Edit: Love the sig. Albert Camus was a brilliant philosopher/playwright. "Should I kill myself or have a cup of coffee?"

In my 36-year career, I have never had the experience of a journalist and their employer attacking the life partner of a subject of any story, even a big one. Even Herbalife and the journalists that covered that escapade chose to stay away from attacking my family. Perhaps I am just lucky or perhaps Business Insider is a disgusting and unethical journalistic operation.
I had forgotten Axel Springer had acquired Business Insider. Axel Springer is now controlled by KKR. I am therefore incredibly shocked by the conduct of a company controlled by KKR, a firm that I have had enormous respect for over the years. I hope they have no idea what is going on in their Business Insider subsidiary, but I am going to look into it. My best guess is that the incentives for management of BI are designed poorly, or as I have been told, the Editor of Business Insider’s Investigative Division has an agenda that he is pursuing against my wife or something else is going on.

And he gave big time kudos to Elon.

Lastly, if X was not independently controlled and governed by a free speech absolutist, Neri and I would not have had the ability to respond in a rapid fashion in a public forum where free speech is allowed, encouraged, and respected. I would also not have had the ability to reach millions of people with what I believe are important messages.
And I would not have been able to be nearly as effective in my campaign to help save the higher education system in our country, and I represent just one of hundreds of millions of grateful users.
So thank you @elonmusk !!! and thank you @lindayaX for holding strong.

I wouldn't be surprised if Elon volunteers to assist with Ackman's pet research project.
