They showed up to cover a protest. Some students made bad choices that could lead to expulsion. When they tried to disrupt the speech, do you expect the coverage to stop?

Before you answer, remember that the decision to remove pictures and quotes was because of fear of helping the school identify those in violation of the zero tolerance policy. So if it was only pictures of students holding signs and voicing opposition outside the building, then it doesn’t sound like an apology would have been issued.

Saying the paper misused their contact’s trust would imply that the paper was aware students would try to break the policy. If that’s the case, then I’d need to see information that suggest that was the paper’s intent.

I also believe there is some fear that some students could be implicated in the non-peaceful parts even if they didn't participate.

I don't think the newspaper apologized for the pictures (will go back and read), I think they apologized for linking the names.

ETA: They did say pictures were removed from someone's personal account. And said that the reporters did not go through proper channels for contacting the sources, whatever that means.

This should be an apolitical topic on media coverage in general.

Some protesters found photos posted to reporters' Twitter accounts retraumatizing and invasive.

Happy to protest and disrupt someone else’s free speech as long as they can remain anonymous. How brave.

Apparantly they also used the university directory to cold call people in the protests to get quotes.

That's called research and reporting.

So then just label any opposing viewpoint as fascistic and you've justified its suppression. Congrats on being more of a fascist than those you criticize.

People in general attach way too much value to their own personal safety.

The rest of the universe doesn't give a shite. The rest of the universe is right.

it was about the paper "outting" protesters by name at a school that has zero tolerance for protesting. Now I understand you can argue if the students were protesting they open themselves up to the consequences. But your link is garbage journalism and written purely to appeal to people like you.

So, in other words in true progressive fashion, they wanted to act the fool without any consequences?

And how many people did the left "dox" who signed the California petition to ban gay marriage?

Why is it OK for the left to do that, but not anyone else? Oh yeah, rules for thee, but not for me.

This shite again. They always use the word "safe." "This statue is making me feel unsafe. This speaker's opinions make me feel unsafe."

It's a manipulation tool. They know that when parents of students or pushover admins hear this word, they'll bend over backwards to accommodate them.

One of the lasting gifts from Obama, the great community organizer frick.

But that is not what the OPs link was about. The linked article tried to make it out as if students were triggered by the paper even covering the Sessions appearance and the paper was apologizing for doing so. It was Rightwing clickbait.

You dumbass, did you even read the apology from the Northwestern Staff?

They literally called Jeff Sessions appearing on campus as a "traumatizing event". I'm as liberal they come but these "journalists" have embarrassed Northwestern immeasurably. Judging by the responses , the outrage crosses all ideological lines. It's really worrisome how fricked up this college generation is.
