Hubba Bubba
You might want to re-google your research. Ss withholding does not reduce federal taxable income.

Technically, you didn't pay any taxes on the funds the Governemnt took out of your check for FICA. So, our Governemet, in it's infinite wisdom, considers SS a pre-taxed bnenefit.

That kind of advice comes from ignorance. Most people will benefit more if they delay taking SS for as long as they can.

To be fair that number was never going to happen and people should've known better than to believe it. Just like tariffs eliminating the income tax. It'll never happen.

Much lower than I would've preferred.

Used to be great... until the water started being used faster than it was replenished.

Cut the deficit, but don’t cut anything I want…

SS is taxed deferred just like 401k withholding

For the record you didn’t pay tax on the SS withheld from your check while you were working. If you look at your W-2 taxable income vs your gross income you will notice it. This is just an FYI and not commenting on the bill. I would benefit from no tax if it passes.

Anything Special security related is not allowed to be in the BBB - it has to be its own separate bill

No. You don't pay tax on FICA withholdings. The rationale for taxing SS payments is right there. I don't have to like it, but I understand why.

Umm I may be misunderstanding what you are saying, but the employee portion of FICA is not deductible. It’s an added tax in addition to income tax.

You absolutely pay income tax on your FICA withholdings.

For simple explanation purposes, if you have $100,000 in gross income in 2025, you pay $7,650 in FICA taxes (7.65%). You still pay income taxes as if you earned $100,000. You don’t get to deduct the $7,650 and pay taxes on $92,350 instead. Your AGI is unchanged if they took FICA away.

What?

Maybe I don't understand what you are trying to say. If you gross $1,000 and they withhold $62 for SS, your federal income tax is based on the gross of $1,000 not based on $938 ($1,000 - $62). Am I wrong?

Your Medicare and Social Security income on your W2 are different from your Box 1 wages because of pre-tax deductions you get to take (401k, health premiums, etc), not because FICA is deducted.
