What we are witnessing right now in the House is an effort to "save Democracy". Isn't that what the Dems and the left have been saying they are fighting to protect?

Help me out here. McCarthy is getting 200 votes from republicans every time, but y’all claim if he gets in there will be no investigations. Well who in the party is going to get 218 that will conduct these investigations?

so...Hilary or Obama being investigated would have been appropriate.

They did the investigation already, though.

So the "should have done something" is just more investigations?

Long term this is all a joke because it's not politically feasible for hard-nosed fiscal conservatives to really use the debt ceiling...

Look at how Trump blew out the spending and his general platform in his SOTU speeches.

AND...everyone cheered! Crazy budgets. Everybody get everything! (unless was to pay for the Big Beautiful Wall. )

To you point -- true. This is why Term Limits must be on the agenda. No legislator/ merc wants to risk their re-election (and further power ranking) being one of the few fiscally responsible.

It won't be McCarthy but House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer. Can't happen if it's Jeffries as Speaker though!

You didn't know that?

Would probably require a Constitutional Amendment

They fear McCarthey is no different and deals will be made to sweep it all under the rug.

I don’t know why any actual conservative is upset.

I'm onboard with everything you've just articulated.

You too spoiled by the Jan 6th investigative committee. Gov agencies acted like that shite was the most sacred thing ever. People were getting arrested for refusing to take part in that clown show.

An investigation into the Bidens or the FBI... will be met with the entire government fighting tooth and nail against it. The committee will have to go through several judges just to get the intel agencies to release the most basic of shite. No one will be arrested for refusing to testify for that committee. Those investigations will go nowhere, especially with rinos in charge. So, not having them isn't a big deal to me.

Some of them, like Roy, are

Theatre > Charades

All we seem to have seen lately has been charades - most of it all behind closed doors.

Closed Doors = Giving illusion of "hope" to their constituents, aka "audience"?

ACTUAL THEATRE on the House Floor seems at least a small positive step in the right direction at this point.

Well YAT -- this time it does "seem" to be a step in the right direction -- though we both know in our heart of hearts that this has a 98% chance of winding up a farcical "WHAAA??" conclusion (which will somehow still shock us )

False, the bus bill gave Biden enough wiggle room to float them until 2024.

I have doubts on any of the investigations succeeding to capture the public's attention enough to put pressure on the institutions

Though I do think a) COVID-related stuff and b) transgender sports/transition for children has enough public pull that they could be of use.

Media will fight both really hard but it'll be obvious if there is still broad interest, and I think the GOP clearly has majorities in both areas (wanting to know true COVID origin, wanting to get to the bottom of COVID excesses, wanting to halt minor transitions and keep 220 pound dudes from beating up your daughters on the soccer field).

You think McCarthy is going to investigate the Dems???

Republicans didn’t do shite with trump in office because they were scared to hurt feelings and look mean. They won’t do shite except put out tough sound bites on CSPAN.

If you want those hearings to end in real actionable trials you don’t want McCarthy in there.
