It's a constitutional amendment so it doesn't need a governor's signature. That said, it isn't going anywhere (for now).

This is the way to improvement. If it doesn’t pass it will be bc of ignorance. People in La have a stupefying reaction to property taxes and will need to be educated on local control.
Call me ignorant but I'd rather the devil I know than the one I do not considering the current structure in LA vs. Texas-style property tax which penalizes property owners/working folks. It's a wash at the end of the day - the issue is the continual growth of ALL Government.

I agree and I'm in Texas. Sales tax is paid by everyone. I'm tired of being punished for living in a nice house. Everyone needs to pay something. Not just those making over 50k

This would strongly reduce the size of state government, and push a lot of that power back to the cities and parishes.
Yes, property tax would go up - by a lot. But, no state income tax. And... at least these decisions on how to spend property tax money are made on a more local level. Your school board members, parish council members, etc are a hell of a lot more accessible to you, than a legislator is.
In addition, we would need to dramatically reform the property assessment system we have in LA, which is rife with abuse and fraud.

Apples to oranges. Texas can implement an income tax free structure because it has advantages that Louisiana does not have.
Land for starters.Land with oil beneath it and a population that is about 9x the size of Louisiana and that is just the beginning.
Not saying I like the state income tax, butthat really has had no real bearing on our business and ecinomic infrastructure....key word infrastructure....it's what Fl and TX have that LA does not have much of.

And let’s watch our property taxes go up to TX levels. The Gubment gonna get they dollars no matter what. How about no taxes! Taxation is Theft!

I’m not going to argue with you about the growth of government bc I agree but that’s not the point. I drive on good roads and send my kid to a very good public school. My police and fire departments are well staffed and responsive to the community. I gladly write my property tax check every year knowing what I got in return. La people pay taxes to a central government while they don’t see a penny of it in their daily lives.
The definition of insanity is expecting different results from doing the same things over and over again. The devil you know is robbing you blind.

I’m fine with property owners footing the tax bill if it also includes a provision stating that only property owners can vote. Or that our vote counts 5X, Dem-style.

The secret to Texas is a lot more than no income tax. They keep their state and local governments efficient so as not to waste taxpayer money. Then they charge higher fees for things like vehicle registration and inspections plus more user fees like toll roads.

As a Texan, here is where that type of tax structure hurts. When people retire, their income is generally speaking, greatly reduced, but not the property tax. There is an over 65 exemption that has a small effect, but if you were in a half million home, the taxes go down from about $10,000 to $9,000. That doesn't stop.

That wouldn’t be a bad idea. But considering that the homestead exemption has not been increased (ever?) since I can remember this is more or less what’s goes on through annual reassessment. A larger percentage of the property becomes subject to property taxes.

I moved from Louisiana to Texas. I prefer the higher property taxes of which much of it remains local. Paying a centralized income tax for legislators to beg and whore themselves out just ain’t my preference.
Plus I can choose what property to buy. An income tax like Louisiana punishes me for making more money. And it comes out in an wash anyway. No income tax. The higher property taxes stay in the community funding the good local schools my kids attend, so no need anymore to fork over extra dollars for private school.

That simple if looking at the way the tax structure is, which means Louisiana’s tax base is older and dying off as under professional move across the Sabine.
Previous Gov Bobby Jindal threw out a lazy, look at me so I can be President plan to eliminate the state income tax in LA, but it never decentralized the mechanism. It simply called for much higher STATE sales taxes to offset lost revenue, which meant Baton Rouge was still going to control local governments and fund their needs in exchange for votes.

Let me put it this way. Back in 80's Houston, after a large downtown building was demolished awaiting redevelopment, a fence would go up, a cow placed on it with a bale of hay and a water trough. That was not for raising beef or some pet.
