Sounds unconstitutional. Would love to see a player sue the NFL for losing a game check for this.

Wait, you think they're being arrested and charged with a crime for going to church?

You DO realize that the NFL is not a governmental entity, right?

In any case, the Players' Union AGREED to these restrictions.

Yet only specific large group gatherings are subject to a fine.

FFS - the NFL is 100% in the public space - public airways, public infrastructure - IN NO WAY can an employer with such access prohibit the free exercise of religion, legally.
You should put your "law degree" back in the Cracker Jacks box and return it. It is not worth the $1.79 you paid for it.

Employers are required to reasonably accommodate an employee's religion unless doing so would place more than minimal burden on the employer's business. Players can attend church services online, so restricting them attending a gathering with more than a certain number of people is a reasonable accommodation IMO. It would place undue burden on the league to allow players to expose themselves to a pandemic virus by gathering at church every week. The first amendment doesn't apply here, but federal employment laws do. I think the NFL is in compliance here personally.

I'd also love to see a player argue he has to go to church due to his christian faith but still manages to play football every Sunday.

Looks like it is a lot more than just church.
If "religion" is one of 435,456 activities affected by something, GODDAMMIT, it is intended to persecute religion!

What if they looked at statistics and determined that the gay lifestyle comes with inordinate health risks. Could they forbid that? If they paid them not to be gay you'd be cool with it?

Theoretically someone could make such a forbiddance. I couldn't imagine the hypothetical that would get you there, though. It would certainly take way more than just ambiguous terms like gay lifestyle and inordinate health risks. But it's possible. The present situation is easy because the harm is so clear, so connected to the business and the reasonable accommodation is so obvious.

I’m sure participating in protests/riots are fine though. Pretty much in line with allowing convicted felon and crack heads’ names on the helmets but not Dallas cops murdered by BLM Members or any Bible verses....

This pandemic has shown the true colors of these Marxist, godless heathens. They are lumping church services in with businesses as if you can treat them the same or that worship does not have fundamentally different elements than other recreation or socialization venues.

As if you have any idea what went on as part of a high stakes negotiation you weren't party to. So tell what happened in there?

During the season? I bet they're not. I don't see any NBA players taking part in protests now that they're in the bubble. Guys are getting fined and/or quarantined for doing anything outside the bubble.

They are free to not work for the NFL, and then freely attend church.

You actually believe that? You think our current federal judiciary would allow that?
