Unfortunately there will never be a good time to let the air out. There's too much unpayable debt. They can't even allow interest rates to rise above the rate of inflation, which makes all that debt a wasting asset, not just in the US but around the world.

Ben Bernanke talked about his "exit strategy" back in 2009, but that phrase was quickly abandoned. Now it's clear that instead of reducing the federal reserve's balance sheet, they'll have to increase it at an increasing rate over time. Otherwise, that ocean of debt will implode like a light bulb, destroying the banks and the Federal Reserve itself. The more they print, the more violently this ends.

Optimism, bd...I like it.

Re China, they have blown it. A lot of us knew that sending our Manufacturing over there was risky...even though our Stocks in those Companies gained value, and paid off. And I felt good that the poor people in China who were willing to work hard at mundane tasks (iPhone stuff, etc) to help their families, got a leg up. Kinda like opening the South Border to honest folk, willing to work in the hot sun, to better their lives.

But the Commies do what they always do...guard their Totalitarian power, and such demanded that they challenge US MILITARY superiority, and require Economic (competitive) superiority in order to fund their Military hegemony. And now...having PURPOSELY AND KNOWINGLY dropped Covid 19 on us and the rest of the World - while cornering PPE markets and threating to cut off essential health products (Antibiotics at the fore)...they are screwed. Nobody will trust them forward. Not (sane or honest) Investors, or the Consumers who formerly depended on a solid supply chain for life's basics. Manufacturing is headed back to our Nation...and with it...jobs.

Nancy's 3 TRILLION 'Stimulus' is BS. Payoffs to slackers. Trump should and must counter with a real 'Works Bill', not unlike that of the Great Depression Era. Build airports, roads, parks, innovative housing, etc., and offer good money jobs to those who (formerly, and even more so now) expect a check in the mail for just being here...and making zero effort toward herd responsibility and prosperity. "Ask not what your Nation can do for you, but what you should (and could) do for your Nation". Anybody that scoffs at that, is a problem...to be appropriately dealt with...like those who ignore stop signs.

Put a Flag on what is left of my Business this morning. We can do this! Or fight it out...again, before doing it.

"The Fourth Turning"...may apply.

How are we nowhere near being oil independent? I’m genuinely asking , not being a smart arse. The only way I can see that is if shale disappears.

I really hope you’re right, man. Everything bouncing back to status quo would be great, both for America and me personally.

I’m not even saying my OP is the most likely scenario, but the possibility isn’t minuscule.

While you are smart Mr. Bluedragon....our gov is comprised of either idiots or grifters. Most of the time, both in one. What you stated makes sense to a business person who wants the best for our economy. Good luck ever realizing the utopia that you know could happen, but likely never will due to...idiots and grifters backed up by an unelected bureaucracy of deep staters.

Right now (meaning prior to this lockdown) we produce maybe 3/4ths of what we use. And that's with shale production being effectively subsidized at uneconomic prices by cheap borrowing. They've been drilling the most promising locations and still the production from fracking wells declines much more rapidly than from tradition oil formations. It's not sustainable at prices that the economy can tolerate IMO.

Greece’s problems were exacerbated by the fact that they had no control over monetary policy through membership in the Euro.

We don’t have that problem.

Oh, yes we do. Individuals from every state are going to be paying for the state and local government deficits either through direct taxation or through inflation we don't know yet.

Greece is a great example at where the average IQ limitations have to be to sustain a socialist healthcare system. Sub 99-100 average IQ societies can’t contribute enough wealth into the system to make it sustainable. Countries above this mark can make some form of it work.

IDK.

I just visited the Puckerbutt Pepper Factory in a tiny SC town. It looked like a festival was going on. No parking anywhere. All the little eateries with outdoor tables packed.

We'll see how it ferrets out.

We have some shitty monetary policy happening right now, but we’re not Greece.

The Fed is going to frick up the capital markets with its ETF and corporate bond purchases, but who knows how that translates to the average American.
