Gloomy climate calculation: Scientists predict a collapse of the Atlantic ocean current to happen mid-century

quote:

Using advanced statistical tools and ocean temperature data from the last 150 years, the researchers calculated that the ocean current, known as the Thermohaline Circulation or the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), will collapse—with 95% certainty—between 2025 and 2095. This will most likely occur in 34 years, in 2057, and could result in major challenges, particularly warming in the tropics and increased storminess in the North Atlantic region.

How can they make judgments on this time of massive scale simply by looking at what amounts to like a sec worth of time according to the age of the earth?

Enjoy some yahoos from DU

They need to raise taxes to prevent this.

If the GULF stream stops circulating New York will be freeze over as per a movie 20 years ago and D.C. will be inhabited by Huskies, snow sleds and Eskimos.

When there are no consequences for being wrong, predictions are just words.

Oh no, I better get rid of my gasoline cars and AC units. Already got rid of my appliances. I asked my family to stop breathing a minute every hour to help. I got rid of all my meat from the freezer and growing only vegetables that are climate friendly. I only wear hemp shoes and clothing.

Is this just their 2012 prediction but delayed?

Let’s see if their advanced statistical tools can predict the weather next week before I believe what they predict in 2057 when I will be 106.

I thought the world was gonna end in the next 10-12 years due to climate change? So why worry about 2057 when the world will have ended somewhere around 2035?

Just far enough out so that when it does not happen at all, the people responsible for the prediction will be dead and not accountable.

They are learning. Makes these doomsday predictions farther out than 10-20 years.

Idea. Have the entire world economy put a % of GDP into a fund and create a modern day Los Alamos, populated with the smartest scientists in the world tasked with the mission to create the greenest, most effective way to generate and transmit power, and then make discoveries free of royalties for the betterment of humanity in total and the Earth it populates. >> offer this and then truth will appear.

The simple fact they they have NEVER been right should not deter them from making future predictions.
