Newsom more popular than 2018 even though 25% of petition signers were Dems?

We all know what happened

Yep!!! Nothing from the idiots in the Republican Party

Newsome probably would have kept his seat without fraud, but the Democrats cheated their asses off anyway. They don’t leave anything to chance

Why wouldn't Democrats cheat to ensure that they get and retain power if they know they will get away with it?

I think it's more of a case of the type of vote this was.
If it was a straight up gubernatorial election, he may have lost.
But, since it was a "recall" election, the CNNs probably made out like the world would end of the current governor would be removed from office.

What's most interesting is that the NYT says that almost 8.7 million mail-in ballots were received prior to the close of polls last night. Which makes sense since there are 22 million registered voters in CA and they were all mailed a ballot. However the current vote total is only 9.1 million. You're telling me that only 400k voted in-person? There is no way.

More than 400K probably showed up in person to vote and were told to fill out a “provisional ballot” because they had already voted.

I'm not even alleging fraud. It's one of the bluest states in the country so recalling Newsom was always an uphill climb but the current vote totals don't make any sense.

I’m just repeating what was already said yesterday… people showed up at the polls and were told they had already voted.

is really is very simple. There are a decent amount of Democrats who don't like him and want him gone.
But if the choice is him vs. Elder(which it was), the choice of those Dems was clearly to keep him.
I think those Dems that signed the petition were hoping for another Dem to emerge as the frontrunner.

What caught my eye last night as I was posting the votes totals was that the No votes were far outpacing the amount of votes all of the dem candidates combined were receiving. I mean, if you’re against the recall, fine. But wouldn’t you as an insurance policy also fill in a bubble for a dem candidate just in case the recall succeeded? It was really odd and it stood out immediately. Very similar to how joe got all of these additional votes but republicans were winning down ticket.

The Democrat strategy and what they were strongly pushing for the entire time was vote no to recall and don't answer the second question at all.

I was confounded earlier about this rise as well. It makes absolutely no sense

Republicans didn't show up and vote.

They pushed no for sure. But I don’t recall hearing them about leaving it at that.

Not very many of those in California. This recall was a waste of time.

It definitely was the strategy.
They told people to vote 'No' on recall and don't answer the 2nd question.
It's why they didn't have a proper candidate for the 2nd question. They learned from last time that if you gave people an option on the 2nd question, they would vote 'Yes' on the 1st question. By not providing a proper alternative, it means that people stick with 'No' on the recall.

Calif. is starting to look more like a Soviet election.

You only fill out the replacement candidate if you fill in yes on recalling.
