quote:Again, since you ignored it the first time, can you link this correction? Because I read the report myself and it says it was a $99k piano for the Air Force Chief of Staff's home.
but reporters corrected the record and confirmed it was spent on providing Us troops surf and turf once every month and providing a piano and other appliances at bases

Updated OP.
I misread Jerry Dunleavy’s reporting.

Could you link it? I'm interested in how you mistook a $99k grand piano for the Air Force Chief of Staff's home for "a piano for the troops in Iraq?"

The reason why this story pisses me off is because We spend TWICE as much on Medicare & Medicaid as we do on the Pentagon. We've literally never spent LESS on defense as a share of GDP (2.9% in 2025 vs. 4.1 avg over the past 50 years).
And no, I am not going to lose sleep over troops getting steak, lobster, and appliances. The piano thing isn’t great, but you’re talking rounding error amounts.

He was referring to the food shipments rather than the entire expenditures. I did not realize that.
Important to note that dem influencers and officials such as Newsom were tweeting mainly about the lobster.

I'll just repost what I just posted in the OT thread.
No one is upset about troops eating well.
The question is why something as basic as feeding the troops would show up during the September “use it or lose it” spending rush that every vet recognizes. If the story is true, that’s something that should already be covered in the normal operating budget.
Did they really push routine food costs down the road and hope there’d be leftover money at the end of the fiscal year? Because if that’s what happened, that’s just sloppy budgeting.
Either way it undercuts the whole “we’re cutting wasteful spending” message. If you’re serious about fiscal discipline, basic operating expenses shouldn’t suddenly appear in the year-end spending scramble.

Earlier today, it was released that the military spent money on crab, steak, and a piano for a base in Iraq.

WHAT?
No, no, no.... Those lobsters are for the gimmedats, not our fighting soldiers.

Updated again. Thanks.
Is there a particular reason this particular story upsets you but not “waste” in other areas of govt?
I’m pretty sure you are staunchly opposed to the 11% federal workforce reduction

Sounds like you are. Also they probably didn't realize a potential action with Iran and deployment down range was coming until later in the year, bub.
And I'll post the same thing I said in the OT thread to those idiots who want to cut the military budget in half because of this, the surplus numbers that they spent are completely negligible next to the 850 BILLION DOLLAR BUDGET.

You literally just said it was wasteful spending

So you don't know what literally means? Shocker.

So what's the wasteful spending here if it's not the stuff in the OP of the thread that you're responding to?
Posted on 3/10/26 at 11:32 pm to The Pirate King
I would call a $99k piano wasteful spending.

If I’m the communist democrats I would be trying to keep the peace with the military. Hell, I’d be bending over backwards to make sure they were taken care of. If things get worse I wonder who they think will police them?
Not wise to make an enemy of the most advanced and dominant military force the worlds ever seen.
I for one hope they keep it up.

And when that 99k was needed next year for something important and it wasn't there?
