Well I believe the church belonged to the Bishop of Rome. Not the dead Jesus.

Jesus said to give Cesar what's Cesar's. In other words, obey the laws and do as those in authority say.
Mary and Joseph made an arduous trek back to Bethlehem to be there for the required census (obeyed the law).
Mary stayed out of the Temple after Jesus' birth for the prescribed amount of time until she was 'clean' again (obeyed Jewish law).
So, those who distort Scripture for the sake of illegals are lower than dirt. What would Jesus do?!?! Tell you to obey the law.

Jesus told us how to treat each other: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, visit the imprisoned and bury the dead.
He mentioned nothing about citizenship or background checks.
