I’m not sure she is hurting her political career. She was never going to be electable statewide, and for the most part this won’t move the needle for the Orleans Parish body politic especially when she has 3 years until she has to run again.
It’s a stupid fight for Moreno, however she could see it as an opportunity to “fight the good fight” and better position herself for a cabinet position if the dems retake the White House.
Mitch used the removal of the confederate statues to do this in his second term, partly due to the profile he received from this he was pencilled in to be head of HUD had Hillary won in 2016.

The easiest and laziest politics in the world for a La. governor is to pit New Orleans against the rest of the state.
Landry is an embarrassing goofball.
