"Richard Pennington changed things with proactive policing."

This really was huge, and you could see the results, both statistically and as a matter of how you felt.

I disagree with your opinion.

Which opinion? That there are cities with better food than New Orleans? Or that Maison Lacour is better than N7? I can totally understand why someone would prefer N7; it is a great restaurant.

I'd like to bring my family to NOLA for a weekend, but current conditions make it impossible to bring my children into that city.

It honestly felt like Mogadishu before LaToya. Now it seems like Kabul.

I want to eat the restaurants and visit with my family, but the risk isn't worth it.

I'd be more confident going to Chicago.

There are more school-aged children in New Orleans than anywhere in the state.

Kabul?

N7. In the South there aren’t any. Just look how New Orleans completely dominates the James Beard awards.

Just in case anyone here missed this little story.

This city is so shittily run, that the Mayor is threatening to cancel Mardi Gras AGAIN, but this time because they don't have enough police.

But nah...it's all good, y'all!

On this topic I have a question. I’m taking my family that includes small children on a cruise in October (Trashy I Know). We are leaving out of NO. I was thinking of staying outside of NO the night before and then drive into NO that morning so they can at least take in the architecture and maybe a beignet. Where is a safe area to stay the night before.

If a Katrina is threatening NO, block I-10 and Airline at Gramercy and when it floods, don't pump it out. Let it rot.

Houston learned their lesson after Katrina and it also started the BR great decline. The 504's and the 225's are still fighting a turf war.

IDK about homelessness. I see a lot of beggars and a few obvious tent-dwelling bums. My comment has been that Atlanta in 2022 looks about like New Orleans did ten years ago. Scares me to try and imagine what the CBD looks like down there now.

It always blows my mind when people actually give beggars money. WTF does it say about you if you think an able-bodied man begging on the street deserves it as much as you do?

That's really the heart of the problem. The bums are no good, but the couch potatoes wandering through life with just a tiny bit more effort are bad, too. The majority tolerate bums everywhere because they don't think they deserve anything better, and they're right- to the extent that an NPC can be right about something.

My first trip as an adult was in the early 80s. Me and a fine NICU nurse went to Bourdon Street. I found myself at the wrong end of the street about 3 a.m. and had to walk back to Canal. I felt a sense of evil about the place. Prayed for the Lord to get us back alive to my car. I've been back twice because of business. The last time was in 2000. I'd like to visit the National W.W. II Muesem before I die but I'm scared to go.

There is a pervasive cloud of degenerate evil that hangs over NO.

I’ve had the same feeling. If you stay on Bourbon past say 10pm, then you’re throwing caution to the wind and making yourself a target. You’ve definitely got eyes on you.
