I have been driving in New Orleans East every Monday for the last four years.

It’s been six months (at least) since I’ve seen a patrol car from NOPD. I’ve seen state troopers on the interstate, but rarely and only seen NOPD if called out to an accident.

It’s become even more lawless than I can remember. People running red lights and speeding with wreckless abandon. Not like once in a while, everywhere you drive.

Not to mention the rampant homelessness, unkempt roads, trash on the road (mattresses, tires) and whores.

It’s a shame these people keep voting for democrats and they are the largest voting block when it appears that Latoya has shifted all resources to the quarter and uptown. Forgetting the East, yet again.

They were blessing the bikers last Sunday. Bet that was fun

Also, Every time I drive by the

“It takes all of us” funeral parlor billboard in the Treme, it fricking triggers me.

It’s a painted depiction of about a dozen female hands holding up a black baby.

I want to vandalize it so bad and scratch out “all of us” and write “a dad” under it.

Last year during the Christmas holidays, I drove through the East on I-10 en route to the Northshore, and I had to take a piss terribly. I pulled onto the side of the Michoud exit to go piss, and the surrounding scenery was harrowing. There was trash, mattresses, and unkempt grass and shrubbery everywhere, and I got the feeling that there were likely a number of bodies that were decaying nearby. It's truly a scary area.

The troopers aren't leaving the interstate, so their presence doesn't count.

That's probably a good thing, given how many shootings there are on or near I-10 in the East.

I do not understand that billboard. And it’s immediately preceded by another children funeral billboard. Is the funeral home trying to make a social statement or are they just advertising funerals for babies?

I grew up out the off Chef and about the early 80’s it turned to crap for sure . I found a mob guy in high school mid 70’s , a Gambino , and feds along with local cops were everywhere . That said it’s been a dumping ground for 40 years

Everyone ran red lights on Claiborne when I lived there. The one time I did it I get pulled over by a city cop and he gave me a reckless driving ticket. He was black.

This was 2004. I never paid it and it hasn't shown up on my record, lol.

The fact of the matter is with nopd numbers dangerously low and their morale in the toilet and violent and property crime up across the city the mayors office and the NOPD have simply surrendered New Orleans East. The cops are outgunned, outmanned, and restricted to the point where they only show up when the show is over to pick up the body and mail in the investigation. The city and NoPD are focusing what resources they have in other areas. If you live in New Orleans East you are on your own.

I can assure you that all of their resources are not in the Quarter or Uptown despite the residents of NOE proclaiming this to be the case. They have a massive police shortage that is not being publicly acknowledged. The NOPF recently said they have fewer than 450 patrol officers for the NOPD.
