New Hampshire has the potential to be red in a sea of deep blue. Why is that? Why is New Hampshire so different from its neighbors?

Don't be surprised if Maine doesn't go Orange first.

You've clearly never spent much time in Maine. New Hampshire, however, has very good chance of going red.

All the polls, including Trafalgar, show Trump outperforming Senate candidates by a couple points. So no, that's not a guaranteed outcome if Trump wins.

Was stationed at Brunswick years ago. Down State is riddled with small extremely left wing College's, and most of those people stayed in Maine after graduating. Upstate, by Loring Afb is completely different. I don't think Maine is going totally Red.

This will be an interesting one to watch as they don't have early voting in NH so everything is tomorrow. I personally think NH will be a early indicator on how tomorrow night is going to go. If it gets called for Trump pretty early then that would be a really good sign. This is one state Trump has the potential to flip from 2016.

The difference for NH this year will be less college students in the state. Residents of NH and the students that move their for college are two different groups of people.

True. In addition, Portland has also experienced a boom over the past 10 years. A lot of New Englanders who want to live in a city environment, but who can no longer afford to live in Boston, have moved to Portland. I lived in Portland about 15 years ago, and at the time it was mostly a depressed working class town with a small bohemian enclave. When I visited last year, it was almost unrecognizable. Felt like being in the garden district.

Maine just feels like a state completely run by irrational women. I've been there for a long period of time, and it will never be red-meat red for some reason, even though 2nd Amendment is huge there. Kind of like Vermont too. Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine should all be beacons of freedom from Mass and NY, but the men give up leadership to the women.

New Hampshire probably goes Trump this time though with so many fewer students voting in person due to muh covid.

There are a lot of Independents in NH, and quite a few of those are Libertarian-minded. However, there are a lot of liberals from MA who move up there for tax purposes and then proceed to vote for the same shitty policies which caused them to move. Ayotte lost because of those MA liberals as well as MA residents who attended various colleges in NH. Additionally, there was a conservative third party candidate who took votes away from her. The Republican Governor signed legislation in 2018 that made it so that OOS students attending college in NH need to be ACTUAL NH residents, or at the very least have a NH license.
