they agreed to the full $25bil?

The self-dubbed “Common Sense Caucus” of senators late Wednesday circulated legislation that would fulfill Trump’s calls to grant legal status to 1.8 million young immigrants and would appropriate $25 billion for southern border security construction projects over the next decade — not immediately, as Trump wants. The bill also would curb family-based immigration programs, but not to the extent Trump is seeking, and would not end a diversity visa lottery program that he wants eliminated.

Let's see if the same concessions are offered up for 5.7 billion.

House passed a bill last night I’m sure the Senate will do the same.

I posted in another thread the House will start passing smaller Bills to open parts of the government. This will put pressure on The Senate and Trump to sign a bill that pays for just border security(Coast Guard, TSA, etc...) without the wall.

Then they will pass bills to open other parts. This is the leverage they will use against Trump and Mitch McConnell.

If it is DOA in the Senate it gives the Dems the position of wanting and caring about border security.

It will give them a talking point about how they believe in border security. Right now the GOP has the talking point that the Dems don’t care.

Everyone knows that $5 Bil for wall funding is a drop in the bucket and won't even begin construction of anything that can span the remote border. The reduction in the demand to $5 Bil was always symbolic, and will result in big shiny wall in places where we already have big shiny fence.

If the Democrats get the DACA people permanent stability, and some other concessions, they will probably go for it.

Dems already voted no on DACA. Why would they change their mind?

They want illegals so they constantly have something to campaign on.

Dems wont go for wall and are quickly being seen as the infants in the room. They are being played by the master deal maker and dems are just perpetuating a massacre.

Amateur hour at the DNC.

I don’t know much about fencing on the border. I know that there is some places that have steel fencing like Southern California, west Texas, and southeast New Mexico.

How much of Texas has a barrier besides the Rio Grande? Once illegals cross the River are they considered to be in the US.?

What about THE DAILY CALLER?????

LINK

quote:

Will Racke | Immigration and Foreign Policy Reporter A White House immigration framework set to be introduced next week includes a path to citizenship for roughly 1.8 million younger illegal immigrants, a top administration official said Thursday. The plan outlines the Trump administration’s wish list for a bill to replace the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, an Obama-era executive amnesty act that shielded from deportation roughly 790,000 illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children. In exchange for a path to citizenship — what immigration hawks would call amnesty — the White House is asking for $25 billion to fully fund the border wall, an end to chain migration and ending the visa lottery system.

or maybe his Twitter....

And then after an Ann Coulter meltdown...

quote:

...It included $25 billion over a decade to build a wall along the southern border and a path to citizenship for so-called Dreamers who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children. It also barred green card holders from sponsoring adult children for permanent residency and reoriented enforcement priorities to focus on criminals in the country illegally. Trump torched the bill as a "giant amnesty" for narrowing the scope of deportations, and complained that it didn’t end diversity visas or stop "chain migration" -- his derisive term for laws that allow American citizens to sponsor siblings and parents for green cards.

Caving now for $5.7 billion would be a pristine example of being cucked.

There's already a wall and/or fencing at almost all of the "vulnerable" points of the border. How vulnerable is defined is unclear, and I don't knwo the breakdown on what types of barriers are where. There was a bill passed in 2006 to add new barriers, and upgrade old ones. Some of those upgrades are what Trump has been touting about how he's improving border security.

I've read that a majority of the border is impassable already because of geography, whether that be the river, or mountains, or other geographical barriers. I don't know how accurate that is though.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Thursday blocked two House-passed funding bill that would reopen the federal government.

Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Ben Cardin (D-Md.), surrounded by roughly two dozen of their Senate Democratic colleagues, tried to get consent to bring up a bill that would fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through Feb. 8, as well as a separate package that would fund the remaining appropriations bills through Sept. 30.

But McConnell objected, arguing they would be “show votes” and saying that he and Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) made an "explicit commitment" to avoid such votes. LINK
