What? Of course they do. Is this another foolish Yang position?

we already have a basic income payment (that pays more than UBI will) for retired people. what does UBI have to do with people not saving?

Social security is a terrible ROI for poor people. They do not have access to investing tools such as an S&P 500 index and year over year SS growth greatly underperforms the index.

Disagree with the poorest are the best and most thrifty among us.
My life and observations say otherwise.

I'm not sure how UBI will be any different.

In some markets, those oversized houses have a lot of equity.

If that happens LOTS of people will die. No way they take money from my retirement account to redistribute and I remain sane. I suspect many people feel that way also.

Is that counting 401ks?
Hard to imagine.

ETA. Read the article. Pretty sad. I started with my current employer 20 years ago. Started just matching the company’s contribution. Then increasing 1% a year. After 20 years it’s become a decent amount

Taxing it is what many want to do.
Thus controlling it.

Hey jackass, you do realize that the government has zero money of its own, right?

Not true, Government prints their money. We've been in deficit spending territory for quite a while, with mandated spending exponentially increasing in the near future.

And that comes in without factoring in the unemployment effects of Robotics/AI.

There is zero chance that the Collective Society Economy remains viable, outside of Government distribution of available basic life resources. How that manifests, or what it is labeled (Democratic Socialism, pseudo-Capitalism, etc.) is really irrelevant re real life effects. The idea that the many live on the fringe, while they (via high tech social media) view the few jetting around on opulent vacations is a dog that won't long hunt. There will be a 'French Revolution'.

Some Leader had better step up and offer realistic assessments and solutions. And they had better be morally acceptable, definable, and persuasive across the Class spectrum.

"Where there is no vision, my people die". That, is the alternative.

Simply stated, this is one thing that would surely drive me to violence. This is why the 2nd Amendment is so important. Sure, by myself I'll be out-gunned but I'm sure like-minded citizens would join me if they steal what I have spent decades building.

I’m not a financial guru but have lived 53 years on this sphere. My best retirement advice - apart from savings and retirement account stuff - is :

1) Pay your house off during your working years and be satisfied with it. 2) Don’t divorce if at all possible.

Those two things will go a long way.

Bad news for the half that do have savings. The other half will be looking for a way to loot it via the government.

In fact the poorest amount us are the most thrifty and save whatever meager amounts they can. Instead of hiding it from taxes they are storing coins and singular dollars under their mattress.

Don't need the government. I have a pension with 21 years in and growing everyday until I retire in 10 years. I also have an extremely healthy 401K. Although I will still take my social security, that I've been paying into since 1985, when I turn 62.

Really? What is the minimum income requirement for a "tax advantaged retirement account"? Please do, tell us.
