If I find out they were tweets about Melania's yoga, I will be outraged.

This has become the defense for everything Trump does. "But Hillary/Obama/some Democrat did something worse one time." So what?

The "But Obama/Hillary" argument is as bad as the Left's "Trump is Hitler" line.

This is a silly story but I also expect Trump to tighten shite like this up.

First of all, its not illegal and says so in the damn article.

Second:

quote:

(2) ELECTRONIC MESSAGES.—The term ‘electronic messages’ means electronic mail and other electronic messaging systems that are used for purposes of communicating between individuals.

Is Twitter an "electronic messaging system that [is] used for purposes of communicating between individuals"?

I lawyer like myself could easily argue no.

Further, deleting a tweet doesn't delete it from existence. There is still a record.

This is stupid.

It is. Trump unquestionably has authoritarian tendencies, and that is something to keep an eye on. Comparing him to Hitler at this point is a bit absurd.

Not a big tweeter but I am pretty sure those tweets go somewhere that is accessible. That's half my problem with Hillary's deleted emails...she sent emails to someone and therefore why didn't we just obtain the info from the recipient on what what she was selli.... er.... discussing with them.

TRUMP's tweets are not official classified material.

Serious offense and puts national security at risk. Time for impeachment proceedings to begin.

Actually, I just went to the all-knowing, always accurate Wikipedia to look up the PRA and found this interesting tidbit:

quote:

Since its passage, presidents have used various methods to avoid complying with the Act, including holding meetings away from the White House and "using non-government email accounts with lobbyists"

I'm curious if Trump using his personal phone under his personal twitter account means he isn't in violation of the act.

He also uses Android apparently so Siri isn't a thing for him.

Lol. I guess in your opinon, if I was under oath and said I had a coke, and it was discovered that I actually had a pepsi you would claim I was guilty of perjury.

I said earlier that IDGAF about these tweets. I'm just answering some general legal questions and bantering.

The difference here is, he can't destroy electronic records that are part of the public domain.

Twitterspere is public domain -- once it's out there, it is there to stay. Sure, he may have deleted it from his account, but is it truly deleted?

I think not.

When Trump deleted a tweet, he likely violated the President Records Act, a 1978 law that requires all presidential writings be preserved.

Anyone want to ban bet me that these tweets are actually preserved somewhere???? So that this:
quote:

Destroying such records is prohibited, based on the idea that it is impossible to know which records may be important in the future

Is not even remotely an issue in deleting tweets. Wouldn't the same thing apply if the WH took down a speech of Obamas that they had previously posted. I mean its gone, but I guarantee, its preserved somewhere, amirite?

Permanent ban bet, anyone?

And I'll just leave this right here before I go
quote:

Deleting tweets from Twitter doesn’t mean the potential evidence of indiscretion is guaranteed to be gone forever, however, as the US Library of Congress is archiving every tweet sent for official records.
