Plummeting 44% off last year’s awful ratings, down 58% off the last time LeBron was in the finals two years ago. Get woke, go broke.

Alternatively, it has nothing to do with that.

We don’t need a bunch of round ball bouncers telling us what to think

They’re ignorant of anything but ball bouncing

There was a time I wouldn’t have missed the finals.

This year, I didn’t even realize they started.

I’m so old I remember when the NBA Finals were on tape delay, run after the late night news.

And you cared so much about it, you watched it anyway, despite someone on TV or the radio letting you know who won.

As compared to now, where you just really don't give a shite one way or the other.

What do you think explains the dramatic drop in viewership of major sports?

There is a huge difference between pro basketball and those other niche sports

People are supposed to care about nba champions

No one cares about who wins the nhl or Kentucky derby. Name the last three winners

It is a big deal when pro basketball is at the lowest it’s ever been

Had no idea either. I don’t know who’s playing and I don’t even care enough to look it up.

This idea would have been absurd to me a year ago. SC was once my all time favorite show.

I stopped watching when it ceased to be sports news, and got ate up with virtue du jour.

The steep decline and record-low is in keeping with the trend for sporting events rescheduled from their traditional times of year. Stanley Cup Final viewership sank 61% to a 13-year low; the Kentucky Derby 43% to a record-low; the final round of golf’s U.S. Open 56% to a record-low; the Indy 500 a comparably modest 32% to a record-low. All of those events, like the NBA Finals, are staples of May and June that were relocated to August and September.

I’d have thought the opposite phenomenon would occur.
Shows what I know.

I think things are weird because of the pandemic. I'll say for myself that LSU lost last week and normally that would stay with me for a couple of weeks. But it's just different. with everything going on. I suspect others are having that too. Also, there are lots of sports going on right now. baseball playoffs, nba finals, and NFL all at the same time. it's a bit much.

Right which is why you wouldn't compare, Kentucky Derby or the US Open ratings to the NFL or the NBA but rather to themselves. And since they're experiencing the same or greater drop it indicates that the issues is systemic rather than specific.

Alternately, all those sports are woke, so they can all get fricked.

WTF else does anybody have to do besides sit on their arse any watch TV?
