Secretary of the Navy John Phelan is leaving the Trump administration “effective immediately,” a spokesman for the Department of Defense said Wednesday.
“On behalf of the Secretary of War and Deputy Secretary of War, we are grateful to Secretary Phelan for his service to the Department and the United States Navy,” the spokesman, Sean Parnell, said on X. “We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Hung Cao, the Under Secretary of the Navy, will lead the military branch in an acting capacity, Parnell said.
What the hell. This isn't the right time to leave in the middle of a war.

Sounds almost like a family emergency or something

Not sure of his background but here's what Google AI says about the situation......,
quote:
John C. Phelan served as the 79th United States Secretary of the Navy, confirmed in March 2025. A businessman with no prior military experience, he previously co-founded MSD Capital to manage Michael Dell's investments and founded Rugger Management LLC. His tenure focused on shipbuilding and fiscal reform, which ended abruptly with his removal in April 2026.

I'm all for Hung Cao as the permanent replacement.
Vietnamese born. USNA squid officer. Got into politics because the Biden withdrawal from Afghanistan was that bad.

Hopefully they make it permanent. He hates the commies

No need to panic. You act is if they will be looking for a replacement on Indeed or something. Bidens administration most likely, but not this one.

They act like it's all because of Trump and Hegseth. It's the only fricking thing Panicans and TDS can run on these days

He must have come out against the Trump battleship class.

Exactly… it’s the NS. It’s not like Adm. Cooper going awol or giving the IRGC the plans for invasion.

Might be the guy holding up the UFO disclosure files. That stuff has been believed to be under the purview of the Navy for a long time.

I've been following Cao loosely since his first run. It shows you how much the goliath that is NOVA liberals that he couldn't get elected in the state that hosts the largest US Navy base on the planet.
