Anyone seeing any chatter regarding the Biden Administration looking to pass a national home property and national rent tax?

If they pass a National property tax I’m buying stock in the pitchfork industry.

DOA in the Senate, just like everything else this board panics over when the House passes something.

They wouldn't do that. That would actually be distributed evenly.

They also want to tax you on how many miles you drive, emails, texts, etc.

So, no one should be concerned when the House passes something like this? It shouldn't be discussed on the political board?

In states with property taxes (like Texas), you already never own your own home. The state has a permanent lien on it with property taxes. That's sick and disgusting and should never be allowed at the federal level.

Although, it would put a severe hurt on Californians an the wealthy East Coast elites, lol. If they don't cap the values being taxed.

This is what makes it so funny to me... if they tax based on local values, then they will be hurting more of their folks than the folks they think they are targeting...

And that's why they're likely to never do it. At least not in a way that makes sense. Perhaps, if this did make it into law somehow, it would tax the first $500,000 of property value only, making it a minor annoyance for liberals like Obama with three multi-million dollar beach homes. Meaning the bulk of the tax would fall on middle and lower classes.

Rent is already taxed as income.

Where would jurisdiction come for property tax?

The ability to tax as much as they do comes down to States willfully entering into a federal program. So, Social Security Taxes are collected by the State entering into the federal SS program.

The State can actually withdraw from the federal program. I don't see how the federal government has the ability to tax property directly without State involvement (general speaking, in this manner).

Of course, the United States as we know it is probably about to go away anyway.

quote:

Title 42 Chapter 7 § 418 (a) Purpose of agreement(1) The Commissioner of Social Security shall, at the request of any State, enter into an agreement with such State for the purpose of extending the insurance system established by this subchapter to services performed by individuals as employees of such State or any political subdivision thereof. Each such agreement shall contain such provisions, not inconsistent with the provisions of this section, as the State may request.
