If the polls are as wrong as we hope they are, I don't see how polling as an industry survives this election cycle.

Polling has gone from "inexact science" to "completely made up shite"

Their cop outs will be Covid and low response rates.

The low response rates are in part because no one trusts pollsters and either lie to them or hang up on them as a result.

Medically speaking about polls - it's known as Fauci's Follies.

Who in their right mind would admit to voting for Trump in this climate? That's a good way to get doxxed and physically attacked.

It’s voter suppression. The polls aren’t “moving”, they’re forced to report them semi-accurately to save credibility. If they were accurate Biden wouldn’t be bringing Obama to Michigan or making Minnesota his last stop.

Bingo.

I hear “we are doing a poll” and immediately hang up. They don’t know how to keep the poll of a reasonable length and no one wants to admit supporting Republicans in this environment.

Look Nate, go back to baseball. You were great @ it. You gave us PECOTA a really good projection system upon which much has been learned. You know why it was good? No bias, you weren’t openly rooting for or against players or teams. It was just the stats.

At a bare minimum, 538 needs to be wiped from the face of the internet.

I remember The day after 2016 all the pundits were scratching their heads wondering how they could be so wrong. Can’t wait for Nov 4th this year.

The Russia stuff was out there before the election took place but really took off the morning of November the 4th between John Podesta and Robby Mook. They were due a 1 million dollar bonus for a Hillary victory. They needed a boogeyman. If anyone read the book Shattered by Jonathan Allen and Aimee Parnes it was documented in the last chapter.

I don’t care to take the time but what do you think they will do to break your trust?

From 2016...

3. The battleground map.
Clinton is within five points of Trump in Texas – yes really – within 2.8 points of him in Georgia and she's actually leading in Arizona by a point-and-a-half.

What actually happened:
Texas - Trump won by 9%
Georgia - Trump won by 5%
Arizona - Trump won by 4.5%

Chuck Todd was on Hugh Hewitt this morning claiming the 2016 polls were accurate "we just read them wrong".

That was always the issue but now the left changes the meaning of science they can do what ever they want and call it science. Polls havent been as accurate since so many people ditched land lines

Problem with Nate is he's using bad data.

Baseball the data is concrete. You can't really frick up calculating baseball numbers.

Election numbers are a pure guess based on polls that are highly inaccurate.

I agree. Polling is a garbage in / garbage out problem. I don't know why the industry continues to take polls as input and apply all these models. The problem is further upstream - go figure out a better way to collect the data.

It's 2020, everything is digital, there's a way that's not some cheese dick calling me at 8:30 at night.
