Umm I do not disagree with you in some portions. But I do disagree with you saying we are teaching them to be dependent. We are actually making them accountable because they have to be present, do specific things to continue in the program.

I would have to show you the whole premise of program for you to fully grasp what we are doing.

My philosophy is from Grover Cleveland...

Loyalty to duty, devotion to truth, and a clear conscience will overcome every hurdle and lead the way to usefulness and high achievement

Though the people support the government the government should not support the people

Not in the poverty or drug use of the adults. But it has led to better test scores, more kids going to camps such as War Eagle and Kanakuk, and applications for colleges/trade schools. This years Seniors are the first full class that has gone through the program for 4 years.

So I do not know if it is a full success or just a partial success.

I do not really care about the parents, in reality, my job is to educate the kids I can not fix what does not want to be fixed.

I hope your right, we've spent 25 trillion dollars over the last 4-5 decades on welfare programs and have little to show.

No. They don’t. The poor in urban areas have far more access to resources. It would shock people how they don’t have to do a damn thing for themselves.

Both. They observe and learn. In fact parents teach the kids about gaming the system.

He has in this thread called all teachers scum, claimed we all went on beach vacations, do not want to teach, and other stupid claims.

They are. They support and condone subpar education.

Simple fact. One group takes vacations while pretending to shelter from COVID, another fricks kids, and still others push anti-white "Critical Race Theory".

Teachers unions and the teachers that support them ARE INDEED scumbags.

You're lumping a lot of people together, bro.

This x1000

I understand the argument of, it isn't teaching the kids if we bail out the parents by feeding them. But I refuse to punish children for the failings of their parents.

I teach in one of the poorest areas of the state, not the delta but delta adjacent. I have students that have never been to the closest "big" town, a whopping 23 miles away. The median household income in my district is 27K. It is amazing how much of a difference you can make once they see that you care enough to help. At that point you can help shape their future. Yeah I'm proud of the teachers kid who becomes a doctor, but I'm a whole lot prouder of the plumber/electrician who came out of nothing.

Got more info, he was doing a project with two
other kids at a table, they couldn’t hear each other talk through the masks so they pulled them down. They were warned to fix them and got frustrated after a while and pulled them down again. Then the teacher wrote up all three.
wow. fight this BS!

Already mentioned I spent my summer volunteering delivering meals to low income kids.

I'm a redneck bowhunter who spends half the winter with a beard that makes me look Amish, I'm pretty sure I'm not pushing white people are bad.

Quit lumping us all together. Go ahead and post your profession and lets see what terrible non-representative examples we can find to lump you with.

Just curious, for the people taking up for the school, who did you vote for in November? Is there any correlation between political party and sides for this argument?

25 fricking TRILLION dollars and the only thing it’s accomplished is allowing them to keep buying votes. Bravo politicians

This isn't a political issue. Kid broke the rules. There are consequences.

I think masks are dumb as shite, but I have to wear one at work, and I have to enforce that others do also.

Have I formally reprimanded anyone? Nope... But this is a teacher hate thread now - pretty common here.

I never said it was a political issue. I asked if there was a correlation between the two. Big difference

My thoughts are this is a different approach than my parents would have employed. If I came home with this note and punishment, my parents would not be siding with me in anyway. They might think it’s stupid, but all I would know from them is I’m a dumbass for getting in trouble and now need to deal with the consequences as they fall.

My own kids are currently too young to be in this situation so who knows how I’ll react.

We are in same type of districts I am in the Northwest you are down south. We play by same rules, that are not written for our districts, but for the NWA and LR/NLR districts.

Like I said earlier I am not going to abandon what I have started until my boy gets to MS then I will go play in the "Big 4"

Just looked it up our average income is 24,1 or 26,5 depending on who is taking the numbers
