You do know that 78% of welfare recipients work, right?

It just funny how this guy’s song is cut from the cloth of Fellow Traveler Woody Guthrie,
It's more like Hank Williams than Woody Guthrie, but neither Woody nor Hank sang about Epstein Island like this guy.

I guess I thought this lyric was referencing the elderly disabled Utah man who was murdered by the FBI in his home.

Great song.
The absolute love affair with it is radically over top. There gonna be Rich Men North of Richmond merchandise threads next?

I don't know if that is correct, but this is: 100% of welfare recipients pay zero in taxes. They don't even pay sales tax at the grocery store with their EBT card.
If they have a job that deducts taxes from their paycheck, they get that all refunded ++ earned income credit money.
Who pays for that?

No sales tax is added to food purchases using an EBT(food stamp) card. At least, that's the case in Alabama, I would think it's the same in other states.

quote:I don’t know anything about the YT reaction video business; maybe you’re right but I’ve watch about 20 of these and I don’t think any of them are fake. There is no way those folks can act that well.
Most of those YT music reactions videos are put up by folks for clicks and likes. It has nothing to do with appreciation of the music and their "reactions" are fake as frick
It fascinates me because the left and the right, politically speaking, have the same reactions. I watched one with a lady with a big Trump sign behind her and one with two younger women and one has a Gwinnett County Progressive Democrat shirt on. Same type of reaction from each.
Most of the reaction videos I’ve seen are posted by people that most other people would expect to lean left & vote democratic. Don’t know what means; just an observation.
Regardless of the authenticity of those videos the 19 million views (just checked the #) aren’t fake.

I've watched at least a dozen reaction videos to that song and everyone of the reactors is fighting back tears.

Great from the heart song. Of course you would find fault in it. Doesn't surprise at all. As you an expert, folks should fall in line with your opinion.

Who cares? Why are you so obsessed with poor people?

The fact that he said things that this forum wanted to hear does NOT make him a good songwriter. It just makes him one of the club.
Yep, from total obscurity to world known in less than a week.... just because the music sucked and it's a cookie cutter message.
Music is much, much more than just lyrics and composition.
The reaction this is getting isn't because of some wizardry of sound, chord structure, or music theory. It's the authenticity of what he's saying and playing that's resonating w/ people.
But, music is definitely subjective, so while I am kind of bashing your views, I can understand that people have different tastes.

The song speaks to a LOT of people. It did to me. It is surprising how many people have still not heard it.
I also learned we have a hell of a lot of songwriters on this forum.
They just want to keep their light hidden under a bushel I guess.

Yeah his use of the welfare queen trope is cringe and embarrassing and undercuts whatever message he and his media handlers were going for

Then write a good one. If this crappy song has gotten this much attention imagine what a well written song could do. I will be standing by for your’s.

Will I get the same intentionally coordinated rollout and astroturf campaign that this guy got? If so sure.

Why not just post a song you’ve written to show us what a good song really is? Then you can really talk shite about song writing.
