MSNBC panel stunned that 'kitchen table issues' are priority in midterms
MSNBC's Mehdi Hasan and guests Molly Jong-Fast and Wajahat Ali appeared concerned that media figures and political candidates are not focused enough on democracy ahead of the midterm elections.
Jong-Fast, host of the "Fast Politics" podcast, said during "The Mehdi Hasan Show" that democracy should be the "most important" issue ahead of the November elections, suggesting it might be our "last election."
"I just think that the mainstream media is not focused on democracy as a kind of, as sort of this central tenant of what we're all doing here," she said.
Hasan argued that everyone should be doing a better job "making clear what's at stakes" in this election. "As Molly points out, democracy is our priority."
Ali, a Daily Beast columnist, said politicians and media figures were only worried about power.
"I just want Democrats to have a spine and punch the bully in the face to bring, finally, a knife to a knife fight and not just bring a pencil," Ali said. "But unfortunately this is where we are."
Hasan said during his show that the media was to blame for the polling showing voters were more concerned about the economy than threats to democracy.
"It’s shocking, it really worries me, just how many smart, well-read people don’t appreciate the current threat to democracy, they don't take it seriously," Hasan said.

i do my very best to try to see things through the lens of the other side to at least understand their perspective on the world. for the life of me i cannot understand how they can possibly view conservatism as a threat to democracy. i mean do they really believe this?

Absolute trash human being. Right up there with Taylor Lorenz.
"Losing our democracy" means "people voting, but just not the way we like it" for Democrats.

Turn out people like to be able to afford to eat. Who’d a thunk it. People going vote for what they believe to be the “issues”. Sounds like the definition of democracy to me.

They don't know what Democracy is

MSNBC has no shows in the current top 50 of cable tv rankings (the highest is Joy Reid's show at 51). Most of their prime programming is beaten out by things like Pawn Stars, Family Feud (on the fricking GAMESHOW NETWORK, no less) and Reno 911 reruns. A lot of these shows are put on just for background noise.
Let that sink in, background noise generally ranks higher than an MSNBC talking head's show.
I don't think it's possible for an entire network to be any more tone deaf than that.

I'd suggest they go find a nation with an actual Democracy.
Democracy is where the 50.1% vote to kill the 49.9%, and its perfectly legal because a Democracy does not have a constitution.

Abortion and social justice are luxury items that people only care about when the economy is good.

They've done nothing else this century. Everything is an existential threat that requires the Left to assume more control from everybody else.

These people are not as smart as they think they are. They are overpaid navel gazers with too much time on their hands.
