Where has he gotten the U.S. an appreciably better deal? He is an overgrown prepubescent child who likes to pick fights with no idea of the repercussions to himself or others. The cross border trade and integration of the supply chain actually makes American goods cheaper to the consumer.

If it was more efficient (i.e., less expensive) to manufacture in one place, it would be manufactured in one place. Otherwise, why do you think they do it the way they do it?

You populist tariff types ignore one of the biggest factors in manufacturing, which is that due to a variety of factors there are certain locales that have an advantage in manufacturing certain things. Manufacturing plants aren't widgets that function equally anywhere you put them, and labor costs are only one factor in this equation.

Factors such as the afore-mentioned location advantage for shipping, or cheaper land near necessary water or other needed materials, or somewhere with cheaper electricity, or supply chain clustering, or abundance of local labor skills sets for specialized workers, or ability to scale, or regulatory burdens.

Not replacing income tax (which could never happen to the degree that we were successful in re-shoring manufacturing here), forcing other countries to drop their tariffs (which would also make the income tax replacement impossible), or leveraging other concessions.

But that's exactly what I said. Re-shoring any manufacturing that isn't already being done here would make the products more expensive for Americans.

Take the cement that was mentioned, for example. Most of that that is made here is made in the south because that's where limestone mostly is.

Would you rather ship raw limestone to plants in the north, or the finished cement once it's been made? Either way it will be more expensive than importing from Canada.

Oh, the irony.

Some of this has to do with Canada polluting the frick out of the Midwest right now and northeast right now and completely ruining our air quality. It smells like a shitty campfire when you go outside.

It literally looks like fog at times with all the smoke. It’s absolutely terrible for people with respiratory problems.

A few days ago the Detroit area had the worst air quality in the world.

I support these additional tariffs for the obvious reason that it is overdue. Canada bedded up with the WEF and their climate change initiatives…. now they are realizing they have irreparably damaged trading relations with their most valuable trading partner.

Trudeau built Canada into an assembly economy, one wholly dependent on keeping positive relations with the US, …. and allowing China to circumvent US regulations with impunity, while Canada played middleman. Stupid.
