I'm torn. It's pretty obvious these were dealers, but they were only caught with contraband. Seems more like armed robbery than a seizure to me.

Cops can just rob you if you have another violation?

quote:

During the stop, a K-9 unit arrived on the scene to assist the officers. K-9 Offizer Zorro was used to conduct an open air sniff around the vehicle and detected illegal contraband. A search of the vehicle resulted in officers seizing more than $900,000 in cash that was packaged in vacuum-sealed bags consistent with drug trafficking operations.

quote:

Being able to take this money, which is clearly the by-product of drug trafficking, off the streets and out of the hands of drug dealers, is a great thing for our community

Legit or no, carrying around that kind of jack is just asking for something bad to happen to you.

Asset forfeiture is THE single biggest criminal activity the police like to engage in.

When did putting cash in vacuum-sealed bags become illegal? Did I miss something? This will come as a shock to many immigrants that have all sorts of cash stored in vacuum-sealed bags.

If they were doing something illegal--catch them. But this isn't it.

Is there something illegal with having money with you? I am confused. Why can they search your car due to a registration issue? How does finding money justify the dog searching the car?

I don’t support criminals, but want to know the justification of the series of actions taken by the officers.

Many immigrant jewelers travel to markets with this kinda scratch. I suppose the police are more likely to take their money than criminals. They're basically pirates.

Asset forfeiture is theft. These government agents are thieves with badges. And the K-9 searches are bullshite anyway. They hit on anything and everything.
