So, Trump has seen the goods on Mitch; knows he's in the CCP's back pocket.

Republicans need Trump gone....out of the picture entirely.

The GOP, Democrats, global elites, and China do not understand that all this is doing is making Trump more powerful by the millisecond. There will be a tipping point here which is not in any of their best interests and the control they possess will be destroyed.

1. said trump lied about election fraud. there was none.
2. after mcconnell said there was no jurisdiction to try after left office
but that there are remedies.
all in a 20 minute wrap up.
it was as if he was a House manager.
slammed trump to the mat wwe style and then stomped his neck.
mcconnell tried to hold his caucus together by voting to acquit.
but mcconnell needed to mightily condemn trump or lose establishment donors who traditionally align with the gop over wall street issues.

McConnell probably ain't running again no matter what was going on thus no concern on that end. So he's likely got more to gain personally by doing this. No surprise whatsoever. And no effect on how people felt about Trump before he even made these statements.
