Minutes before Trump left office, millions of the Pentagon’s dormant IP addresses go live.

What's really going on here?
What's really going on here?

After decades of not using a huge chunk of the Internet, the Pentagon has given control of millions of computer addresses to a previously unknown company in an effort to identify possible cyber vulnerabilities and threats
quote:
While the world was distracted with President Donald Trump leaving office on Jan. 20, an obscure Florida company discreetly announced to the world’s computer networks a startling development: It now was managing a huge unused swath of the Internet that, for several decades, had been owned by the U.S. military.
What happened next was stranger still.
The company, Global Resource Systems LLC, kept adding to its zone of control. Soon it had claimed 56 million IP addresses owned by the Pentagon. Three months later, the total was nearly 175 million. That’s almost 6 percent of a coveted traditional section of Internet real estate — called IPv4 — where such large chunks are worth billions of dollars on the open market.

the company’s address in Plantation, Fla., outside Fort Lauderdale, is a shared workspace in an office building that doesn’t show Global Resource Systems on its lobby directory.

What, exactly, can they do with these addresses?

Whatever it is you know it is not good.
When the gov finally drops the curtain, which will a lot sooner than most think. The shock to everyone that our gov is no different than China will be monumental, even though all the signs and proof are becoming more evident by the day.

I was reading a while back that something like 90% of Twitter posts and Reddit posts can be traced back to the same cluster of IP addresses within Amazon and Google, I wouldn’t be surprised if those IP addresses were part of a the massive bot farms we’re seeing that are propping up failing social media platforms and making it look like 95% of their users are huge liberals

Are you shitting me? Tech and media companies will ensure that revelation is buried, spun as a positive, or both.

The main thing i got out of it is that whoever is doing this waited for trump to get out of office to acquire a significant portion of the internet and whoever did it, the company may not exist and is just a front for nefarious means.
Now why would bad actors owning a chunk of the internet be a bad thing?
Seems like that can easily be used to control content on the web, and know who is accessing what, saying what, and so on. Think of a ‘twitter’ like internet aka paving way for internet police. Who knows.
Tbh, I’d be worried if only one person/entity owned a majority of the internet.

100%. I firmly believe 90% of people are instinctively conservative. Half of those are succeptible to being shamed into wokeness, but truly only about 10% of the country ends up woke. They just scream and bitch the loudest. Mainly due to having NOTHING worthwhile going on in their lives; ie they are losers.

Sounds like a series of DDoS attacks are in order.

Why is everyone just assuming this was done by people with bad intentions?
It could also be an elaborate operation to privately monitor what Xiden and his minions are doing.

Optimistically I want to agree with you. But you got it a little twisted my dear. Xiden doesn’t have minions. He is a minion

They're already monitoring Trump supporters. They didn't need a new tool for that.

Because it looks to me like an opportunity to use bots to infiltrate the Pentagon.

I don't think this is a big story and probably just coincided with Trump leaving. Like they said public, routable ip addresses are worth money. there is no need for the pentagon to have millions of ips. With NAT you can run large private networks behind a handful of public facing ips.

Keep looking for that hooker with a heart of gold.

A security contractor to the Pentagon took over the management of a large portion, maybe all, of the Pentagon's IP addresses. They sent out digital signals over the web to other internet managing companies that they are now managing the IP addresses.
The IP addresses could be used for anything, hacking, connections to military drones, websites, spying on internet activity, email servers, bot farms for propaganda......

I read this article yesterday. They made billions selling the IPs. The expansion seems to enable big brother big time.
It seems just like when Obama was in and the IRS gunned non democrats. Now the USPS is spying and the CIA extended tracing political opponents of the swamp.
