"Surprisingly, Mayor Jacob Frey just stated that, ‘Minneapolis does not, and will not, enforce Federal Immigration Laws.’ This is after having had a very good conversation with him," the president said in the post.

"Could somebody in his inner sanctum please explain that this statement is a very serious violation of the Law, and that he is PLAYING WITH FIRE!" Trump warned.

quote:

Frey responded to the president's comments. "The job of our police is to keep people safe, not enforce fed immigration laws. I want them preventing homicides, not hunting down a working dad who contributes to MPLS & is from Ecuador. It’s similar to the policy your guy Rudy had in NYC. Everyone should feel safe calling 911," the mayor asserted in a post on X, making an apparent reference to former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

You cannot enjoy the benefits of a Federal relationship and then say Federal laws will not be enforced.

Time to act.

No one is asking them to enforce immigration laws.

They are being asked to get out of the way.

The city shouldn't be sending their local police to round up illegals. But when the local police arrest someone for an unrelated crime and that person has an immigration detainer, then the city should honor that detainer allow ICE agents to come pickup that person from the local jail.

You are also barking up the wrong tree. I made my stance on immigration clear several times. Take it up with someone else.

I would say it’s time to stop sending Federal money to Minneapolis until they comply with Federal law, but a judge will block it.

In our federal system, this is a political decision at the local level, though.

And the propriety of that decision is judged by the local electorate in their local elections.

Would I vote for that mayor? Probably not (I'm extrapolating this to other areas, admittedly). Would you? Certainly not.

So Mr. Smart Guy, If an illegal alien came across the United States border, from any direction, illegally, they've broken FEDERAL Law! Therefore, the federal law enforcement agency has every right, no matter where, to enforce the law......................................remember, regardless of illegal muchacho status, and in the exact words of ALL Dems, "No one is above the law!"

Debunk this.

Federal agents are not asking local authorities to enforce immigration law. They can’t, and you can thank Barak Obama for that.
They are asking for support with logistics, information, and local crowd control to ensure these operations are safe and bring minimal disruption to lawful citizens. So when figs like Frey refuse this support, he only hurts the citizens of Minneapolis. Because he is a purely political creature, he desires these deadly confrontations with organized agitators, and the media fervor that follows. That is where his loyalties lie.

That's a nice defense of blue cities releasing violent criminals back into the community just to intentionally make it more difficult for ICE to deport them. If my mom drank while I was in utero, I might actually think that was an appropriate reason to promote more rapes and murders.
