Start it at $10 million and I’ll listen. Would still rather have a consumption tax.

Same. As long as its across the board, and we're not choosing winners and losers.

What’s $400 billion going to do when you have trillion dollar out of control spending?

This idea will be a tremendous boost for people busting their arse to be great and come up with new innovations.

Here’s your reward for doing incredibly great work and busting your arse.

I won't accept higher taxes until spending can't be cut any further. I have learned my lesson, but the government has yet to learn theirs.

If ever anyone needed convincing that there is only 1 party, this is it. Instead of focusing on cutting costs by eliminating the NGO fraud and waste, these uniparty thieves would rather just try and increase revenue to try and keep their grift going.

That would be a nice change of pace.

Yep. That 40 billion per year would cover around 2.5 days' worth of spending.
All of a sudden, we're open to the rounding error argument!

that taxing income over $1 million at a 40% rate
That's a very dramatic framing of "top marginal rate goes from 37 to ~40ish where it was before December 2017".

It's already ridiculous that couples making 400K+ are hitting 35-37%.

That doesn't make sense.

Married filing jointly:
400,000 AGI
-8550 HSA
-30000 std deduction
-47,000 401k
314,450 taxable income

Putting 69,450 into your top marginal rate of 32%, without even itemizing. A 400,000 AGI wouldn't even put them in the 35% bracket.

I also forgot to take out health care premiums. Another -18,000 - -24,000?

What am I missing?

Nothing. People frequently vastly overestimate their realized marginal rate.
